  • Mike Davis: Announces retirement

Davis announced Monday via social media that he has retired from professional football. Davis is retiring from the NFL after eight seasons, with his best campaign coming in 2020. He appeared in 15 games with the Panthers that season, surpassing 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the first, and only time in his NFL career, while also scoring eight total touchdowns. In addition to the Panthers, Davis saw action with the 49ers, Seahawks, Bears, Falcons and Ravens from 2015 through 2022.

  • Mike Davis: Gets look from Minnesota

Davis had a workout with the Vikings on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Davis was unable to make an impact in Baltimore and was ultimately waived in December, and he's been sitting on the open market since. With Alexander Mattison and Kene Nwangwu both currently dealing with undisclosed injuries, Davis might be an option to provide some depth in the backfield during camp.

  • Mike Davis: Waived Saturday

Davis was waived by the Ravens on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The veteran was a healthy inactive each of the past two weeks, and he had compiled just four total offensive snaps since Week 7, so this decision is hardly surprising. With J.K. Dobbins (knee) expected to be activated off injured reserve Saturday, the Ravens will be the healthiest they've been all season at running back, although the offense will likely still be limited with Lamar Jackson (knee) doubtful for Sunday's contest against the Steelers.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Healthy scratch Sunday

Davis (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Jaguars. Davis has played a minimal role for the Ravens this season and has yet to carve out any kind of consistent role with the team. He'll now work to earn a chance to play Week 13 against the Broncos.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Makes little impact

Davis caught his only target for seven yards in the Ravens' 27-13 win over the Saints on Monday. The veteran running back saw just three snaps on offense, even with Gus Edwards out due to a hamstring injury. Davis has yet to make an impact in Baltimore, having not played double-digit snaps since Week 2 despite Edwards, J.K. Dobbins (knee), and Justice Hill all missing time due to various injuries throughout the season.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Inactive Sunday

Davis is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns. With Gus Edwards off the PUP list and back in the mix Sunday along with Kenyan Drake and Justice Hill, Davis is the odd man out in the Ravens' backfield for now.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Minimal role Sunday

Davis had one carry for three yards Sunday against the Bengals. Even with Justice Hill (hamstring) sidelined, Davis did not see much of a role increase as he played just five offensive snaps while Kenyan Drake assumed the No. 2 role behind J.K. Dobbins. Davis is mired in the No. 3 role at best, and it could diminish further upon Hill's return. Wide receiver Devin Duvernay even had more rushing work than Davis and was more effective on his carries. Baltimore hits the road to face the Giants in Week 6.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Sees one snap against Patriots

Davis played one offensive snap Sunday against the Patriots and did not record any other statistics. Though Davis remained active despite the return of J.K. Dobbins, he was not involved in the game plan, as Justice Hill assumed the No. 2 role in the backfield. Davis played 18 snaps Week 2 after seeing six snaps in the opener. With Hill rushing for 60 yards on six carries and Dobbins projecting to see more work moving forward, those who speculated on Davis carving out a role in this offense may want to look elsewhere.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Minimal production against Dolphins

Davis had five carries for four yards and was not targeted in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Davis nearly matched the team lead in carries among running backs but that rings hollow when he averaged less than one yard per carry and the top back, Justice Hill, rushed for 16 yards. His snap count increased from six to 18 but that could come back down if J.K. Dobbins (knee) returns in Week 3. Even if Dobbins remains out, Davis does not seem to be primed for a fantasy-relevant role.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Takes back seat to Drake

Davis rushed twice for 11 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 24-9 win over the Jets. Davis got just two touches, even with both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards unavailable due to knee injuries. Dobbins is eligible to return as soon as Week 2 against the Dolphins, but even if he doesn't, Davis will likely continue to play a minimal role behind fellow veteran pickup Kenyan Drake.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: In line for expanded role in Week 1

With J.K. Dobbins (knee) slated to be inactive Sunday against the Jets, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network indicates that Davis is expected to start, though the Ravens figure to employ a backfield rotation in Week 1 that also includes Kenyan Drake and Justice Hill. In that context, it remains uncertain how much volume Davis will see Sunday with Drake and Hill mixing in, but while filling in for Dobbins versus the Jets, both he and Drake profile as options for those scrambling for Week 1 RB help.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Should have big role early on

Davis could get the most carries in Baltimore's backfield early in the season, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. J.K. Dobbins (knee) is making progress in his recovery from a torn ACL but could still be inactive or limited for the Ravens' Week 1 game at the Jets. Meanwhile, Gus Edwards (knee) has already been placed on the reserve/PUP list and is ruled out for the first four games, making Davis the likely No. 2 back early in the season even if Dobbins is ready to serve as the starter. Davis started the team's first two preseason games, with Justice Hill next through the rotation and rookie sixth-round pick Tyler Badie and Nate McCrary following behind. While Davis isn't exactly speedy nor difficult to cover in open space, his role with the Ravens could include passing-down work in light of his reputation as a good blocker. He had 144 catches and only eight drops over the past four seasons, albeit with a meager average of 6.0 yards per reception.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Returns from undisclosed injury

Davis (undisclosed) returned from a minor injury to record six carries for 18 yards and caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Cardinals. Davis suffered an undisclosed injury during practice earlier this week, but his availability in an exhibition game proves he is over what ailed him. The veteran journeyman's presence in Sunday's contest also proves how dire the situation at running back could be in Baltimore to start the season, with both J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Gus Edwards (knee) at risk of not being ready for Week 1. The 29-year-old may find himself in another advantageous starting situation -- similar to his time in Atlanta to begin last season -- and he did receive the first carry out of any of the remaining healthy backs. The younger and more-explosive Justice Hill (one carry for eight yards) also could get in the mix for snaps should either of Dobbins or Edwards miss time during the regular season.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Starts and scores

Davis took five carries for 22 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason win over the Titans. Davis was the first back through the rotation, as would be expected with J.K. Dobbins (ACL) not yet cleared for contact and Gus Edwards (ACL) still on the PUP list. Dobbins seems to be on track for Week 1, but Edwards doesn't, which means at least one of the Ravens' other backs is likely to get some snaps and touches in the opener. Davis is the most experienced among them and has been getting the most reps in camp with the first-team offense, and the solid showing Thursday night certainly won't hurt his chances. He mostly worked between the tackles, but his TD came from four yards out on his fifth and final carry of the night, capping off Baltimore's second drive. After that, the Ravens turned to Justice Hill, followed by Tyler Badie mixing in for a two-minute drill. After halftime, it was mostly Badie (a fifth-round rookie) and Nate McCrary (a 2021 UDFA) getting the backfield snaps, along with veteran Corey Clement.

  • Ravens' Mike Davis: Finds home in Baltimore

Davis signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on Tuesday. Baltimore explored signing other free agent running backs earlier this offseason, but the team passed on those options and only brought in rookie sixth-round pick Tyler Badie via the 2022 NFL Draft. Davis' arrival provides the Ravens with a proven veteran option while J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Gus Edwards (knee) work their way back from ACL tears. Davis was outplayed by Cordarrelle Patterson with the Falcons last season, but perhaps Baltimore's scheme will give the 29-year-old better opportunities for success. Back in 2020 with the Panthers, he racked up 1,015 scrimmage yards and eight total touchdowns in 15 games.

  • Mike Davis: Let go by Atlanta

The Falcons will release Davis (ribs) on Monday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. The Falcons will save $2.5 million against the cap by moving on from Davis, who was quickly displaced by Cordarrelle Patterson as Atlanta's preferred option on the ground in 2021 after inking a two-year, $5.5 million deal last offseason. Another team may view the 29-year-old Davis as a decent depth option, but the Falcons appear set to proceed with fifth-round rookie Tyler Allgeier or veteran Damien Williams as the top complement to Patterson.

  • Falcons' Mike Davis: Fumbles twice in loss

Davis (ribs) rushed six times for 30 yards and caught all three of his targets for minus-2 yards during Sunday's 30-20 loss to the Saints. He also lost two fumbles. Davis led the Falcons in rushing attempts and yards before leaving the game with a rib injury. In his first season with the Falcons, he finished with 138 rushes for 503 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 44 receptions and 259 yards and a score through the air. The veteran running back signed a two-year deal with Atlanta before the 2021 campaign and is expected to return to a similar role next season.

  • Falcons' Mike Davis: Hurts ribs in season finale

Davis injured his ribs during Sunday's game against the Saints, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. Before his departure, Davis put together an ignominious stat line composed of six carries for 30 yards, three catches (on three targets) for minus-2 yards and two lost fumbles. With Davis out of the lineup, Cordarrelle Patterson and Qadree Ollison are the Falcons' options out of the backfield.

  • Falcons' Mike Davis: Paces backfield in loss

Davis rushed eight times for 42 yards and a touchdown while bringing in one of two targets for 15 yards in the Falcons' 29-15 loss to the Bills on Sunday. Davis' rushing yardage total paced the Falcons on the afternoon and was his second-highest tally in that category since Week 5. The veteran has been more efficient on the ground in recent weeks with 4.6 yards per carry over his last five contests, but his modest volume while splitting the rushing workload with Cordarrelle Patterson is likely to cap his fantasy upside again in Week 18 versus the Saints.

  • Falcons' Mike Davis: Gets six touches in loss

Davis rushed six times for 21 yards and failed to bring in his lone target in Sunday's 31-13 loss to San Francisco. Davis saw his usage drop back to single digits in terms of touches after getting 15 last week. Cordarrelle Patterson (11 carries for 18 yards) also struggled as the Falcons abandoned the run game in the second half after falling behind big to the 49ers. Davis requires a favorable game script and high efficiency on the limited touches he gets in order to have fantasy value, so he should be treated as a fringe option heading into a Week 16 matchup against Detroit.
