Jason Cabinda: Moves back to practice squad
Rotowire
The Lions reverted Cabinda to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
After spending much of the campaign on IR with a knee injury, Cabinda was activated ahead of Detroit's Week 17 loss to Dallas. He was subsequently waived but then re-signed to the team's practice squad ahead of Sunday's season finale versus Minnesota. In addition to contributing on special teams, Cabinda has also worked as both a fullback and tight end, and he has an especially good chance of being elevated for Detroit's wild-card game against the Rams on Sunday if Sam LaPorta (knee) and/or Brock Wright (hip) can't suit up.

Lions' Jason Cabinda: Will miss another game
Rotowire
Cabinda (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 5 contest versus Carolina.
Cabinda missed last Thursday's win over the Packers due to a knee injury, and he doesn't appear to be making much progress given that he logged a trio of DNPs this week. However, he did do some work on the side during practice, so there's a possibility he could return against the Buccaneers in Week 6. Tight end Darrell Daniels filled Cabinda's role at fullback and on special teams in Week 4 and will likely continue to do so this Sunday.

Lions' Jason Cabinda: Deemed out Week 16
Rotowire
Cabinda (illness) will be sidelined for Saturday's game against the Panthers.
Cabinda did not practice at all during Week 16 prep while dealing with an illness, though the nature of this ailment is still unknown. The fullback has recorded one carry over the Lions' past six games, though his absence will leave the team without its primary run blocker against Carolina. In his absence, either tight ends Shane Zylstra or James Mitchell will likely take on a bigger blocking role out of the backfield. Cabinda's next chance to play will come against the Bears on Sunday, Jan. 1.

Lions' Jason Cabinda: Listed as questionable for Sunday
Rotowire
Cabinda (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Cabinda didn't practice Thursday and was limited Wednesday and Friday due to an ankle injury. The fullback missed the Lions' first nine games of the season while on the reserve/PUP list with an ankle issue, but it's unclear if the two issues are related. Regardless, Cabinda has rushed just once for four yards and failed to haul in either of his two targets across five appearances this season, so his potential absence wouldn't have any fantasy implications.

Cabinda remains on the PUP list, but it's certainly a positive sign that he's back on the practice field. Lions' Jason Cabinda: Suffers knee injury Sunday
Rotowire
Cabinda (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Falcons, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Cabinda suffered the injury after catching a two-yard pass from Tim Boyle. If he's unable to return, the Lions won't have a healthy fullback on their active roster, so they may opt to run more two-man sets with Brock Wright and Shane Zylstra.

Lions' Jason Cabinda: Three touches in 2020
Rotowire
Cabinda carried once for no yards and caught two of three targets for eight yards over 16 games in 2020.
After filling in for Nick Bawden (undisclosed) down the stretch of the 2019 campaign, Cabinda again assumed the Lions' fullback duties in 2020 once Bawden suffered another season-ending injury in training camp last summer. Cabinda not only made it through 16 games but he seemed to fare well in that role despite not getting many touches. Given his status as an exclusive-rights free agent, Detroit can easily retain the Penn State product for another year on the cheap, if it wants.

Lions' Jason Cabinda: Limited in practice Wednesday
Rotowire
Cabinda (ankle) was limited during Wednesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Cabinda played 14 offensive snaps and another 20 on special teams in Week 1, but he's being held back in practice. It doesn't seem too serious since he can still operate in some capacity, but the Lions don't have another fullback on the active or practice roster if Cabinda can't play against the Packers on Sunday.

The Lions signed Cabinda to the 53-man roster from their practice squad Tuesday.
