NFL Week 13 Recap: Packers Hold Off Lions on Thanksgiving

Fantasy News

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Activated off PUP

The Lions activated Wingo (knee) off the active/PUP list Tuesday, Richard Silva of The Detroit News reports. Wingo is healthy again after having recovered from a knee injury suffered last November. The 22-year-old has been on the PUP list since July but will look to earn a spot on the team's final roster as a backup defensive tackle.

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Placed on active/PUP list

Wingo (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Lions on Thursday. The defensive tackle suffered a season-ending knee injury on Thanksgiving Day last year in a win over the Bears. Wingo can technically return in time for the Lions' preseason opener this year against the Chargers on July 31, though that remains a question after he underwent surgery. In 11 games as a rookie, the 2024 sixth rounder played on 162 defensive snaps and 44 special-teams snaps, finishing with nine tackles (one solo).

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Done for season

Wingo is slated for season-ending knee surgery, Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News reports. Wingo hurt his knee Thanksgiving Day in a victory over the Bears, and the injury will put an end to his rookie campaign. The defensive tackle will end his first NFL season with nine tackles (one solo) over 11 games. Brodric Martin may become part of the Lions' defensive rotation in Wingo's stead.

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Past ankle issue

Wingo (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Wingo was sidelined for the Lions' Week 9 win over the Packers due to an ankle issue, but Wednesday's full practice suggests he's moved past the issue. Now that the rookie from LSU has returned to full health, he's expected to serve as one of the Lions' top rotational defensive tackles in Week 10, when the team travels to Houston.

  • Lions' Mekhi Wingo: Lands in Detroit

The Lions selected Wingo in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 189th overall. The Lions traded up to select Wingo, who some believed could be an earlier Day 2 selection. A bit undersized to be a true nose tackle at 6-foot, 286 pounds, the 21-year-old tallied 8.5 sacks throughout the course of this three seasons with LSU and played nearly every defensive snap over the final two years when healthy. Detroit spent the majority of the first two days of the draft beefing up its secondary, but Wingo could make an immediate difference along the interior of the defensive unit in his rookie season.
