  • Montrell Johnson: Works out with Washington

Johnson (undisclosed) had a tryout with the Commanders on Sunday, Howard Balzer of USA Today reports. Johnson was cut by the Panthers in late May after reaching an injury settlement with the team following an undisclosed injury. The running back also had a tryout with the Cardinals on Saturday, so he's officially recovered from whatever injury was bothering him in the spring.

  • Montrell Johnson: Agrees to injury settlement

Johnson (undisclosed) was waived from Carolina's IR with an injury settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Johnson reverted to IR after going unclaimed on waivers with an injury designation May 19, and it appears the Panthers are moving on from the Florida product. He has yet to appear in an NFL game after tallying 593 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 5.9 yards per carry during his senior campaign in 2024.

  • Panthers' Montrell Johnson: Reverts to IR

Johnson (undisclosed) reverted to Carolina's injured reserve Tuesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. Johnson will remain with the Panthers after going unclaimed on waivers. The 23-year-old signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January and will now be forced to miss the entirety of the upcoming campaign unless he's waived with an injury settlement.

  • Montrell Johnson: Cut from practice squad

The Cardinals cut Johnson from the practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Johnson caught on with the Cardinals' practice squad this past Wednesday after being without a team for nearly three months. His stint with Arizona will end up lasting less than a week after he was let go from the practice squad, and he'll look to catch on with a team in need of backfield depth. The undrafted rookie has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

  • Montrell Johnson: Getting cut from practice squad

  • Montrell Johnson: Back with Philly

Johnson signed with the Eagles' practice squad on Monday. Johnson was waived by the Eagles in late August after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster, but it now appears that he'll remain in Philadelphia on the practice squad. The Florida product flashed throughout the preseason, rushing for 77 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries. He could be elevated to the Eagles' active roster if the running back room is plagued by injuries later this year.

  • Eagles' Montrell Johnson: Not practicing Saturday

Johnson (hamstring) will be sidelined for Saturday's training camp practice, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Johnson is working through a hamstring injury, which forced him to observe Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals from the sidelines. He signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in late April, so an extended absence hurts his chances of making the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. Johnson will focus on getting back on the practice field and being available for the Eagles' second preseason game against the Browns on Saturday, Aug. 16.
