  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Returns to practice

Schwesinger (ankle) was a limited participant at the Browns' practice Thursday. Schwesinger was able to return to the field after missing the team's first practice of the week while tending to his lingering ankle injury. The linebacker has been able to play through the injury the last few weeks, and he seems likely to be good to go Sunday versus the Titans.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Still dealing with ankle issue

Schwesinger (ankle) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Schwesinger was able to play through his lingering ankle injury in Week 6 versus the Ravens, recording a season-high 13 total tackles in that game. The Browns may simply be exercising an abundance of caution, but Schwesinger's activity at practice as the week continues will still be worth keeping an eye on ahead of Sunday's contest at Tennessee.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Season-high 13 stops vs. Baltimore

Schwesinger logged 13 tackles (five solo) and one forced fumble during the Browns' 13-10 win over the Ravens on Sunday. Schwesinger was nursing an ankle injury during Week 6 prep, but he was given the green light to play after going through pregame warmups. He ended up leading the Browns in stops while playing every single defensive snap, and he made arguably the most important play of the game when he punched the ball out of Derrick Henry's hands early in the fourth quarter, and the Browns' offense capitalized with a two-yard rushing touchdown by Audric Estime seven plays later. Schwesinger has logged double-digit stops in three of six regular-season games and is up to 56 combined tackles, which is tied with Nakobe Dean and Anthony Hill for fifth-most in the NFL.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Ready to go for Week 6

Schwesinger (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Despite sustaining a Grade 1 right ankle sprain in last week's loss to the Jets and managing just one limited practice during Week 6 prep, Schwesinger has been cleared to suit up Sunday after making it through a pregame workout no worse for the wear. After taking home NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2025, Schwesinger is off to another strong start to the current campaign, having compiled 43 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup through five games.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Week 6 status comes down to pregame work

Schwesinger, who is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Ravens due to an ankle injury, will go through a pregame workout before the Browns make a call on his status, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is nursing a Grade 1 right ankle sprain coming out of this past Sunday's loss to the Jets and was contained to one limited practice during Week 6 prep. Schwesinger showed enough during Friday's session for the Browns to keep the door open for him to play Sunday, but he'll need to check out well in his pregame work in order to get the green light to suit up. Official word on the linebacker's status will arrive when the Browns post their inactive list 90 minutes prior to the game's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Tagged as questionable for Week 6

Schwesinger (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Schwesinger was held out of the first two practices of Week 6 prep due to a Grade 1 ankle sprain that he picked up during the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Jets. He was able to practice in a limited fashion Friday to draw the questionable tag, but if he cannot play Sunday, then Winston Reid and rookie fifth-rounder Justin Jefferson would be the top candidates to start at linebacker.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Avoids serious injury

Schwesinger sustained a Grade 1 right ankle sprain during the Browns' 17-12 loss to the Jets on Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Schwesinger was spotted wearing a walking boot on his right foot following Sunday's loss, when he played every single defensive snap and logged eight tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks, one pass defense and one forced fumble. The Grade 1 sprain is a best-case scenario for the second-year linebacker, and he has not been ruled out for Week 6 against the Ravens, though his practice participation will provide clarity on whether he'll be cleared to play Oct. 18. Winston Reid and rookie fifth-rounder Justin Jefferson figure to be the top candidates to start at linebacker if Schwesinger were to miss time.

It is unclear how significant the injury to the defensive captain and signal caller is.

Schwesinger made nine tackles (three solo) in the Browns' 27-24 win over the Steelers on Thursday. Schwesinger played all 64 of the Browns' defensive snaps in the contest. The middle linebacker and defensive signal caller has played all 262 defensive snaps for the team through four regular-season games in 2026. • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Executes in team effort

Schwesinger logged six tackles (one solo) in the Browns' 21-18 win over the Panthers on Sunday. Schwesinger played all 74 defensive snaps in Sunday's contest and the captain has played all 196 defensive snaps for the Browns through three regular-season games. The middle linebacker and signal caller for the defense did not have any incredible box-score feats in the Week 3 win but practiced stellar communication that helped enable Mason Graham's 2.0 sacks and Ronnie Hickman's game-winning interception.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Browns' leading tackler in win

Schwesinger recorded 10 tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 23-19 win at Tampa Bay. Schwesinger followed up his strong Week 1 performance with a virtual repeat in Week 2, and he has now recorded 10-plus tackles in nine of his last 10 games going back to last season. He's an elite IDP option in most formats going into a Week 3 matchup versus the Panthers.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Records 10 tackles

Schwesinger finished with 10 tackles (three solo), including one for a loss, in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Jaguars. It was not the best day for the Cleveland defense, but its middle linebacker again was all over the field. Schwesinger won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2025 after recording 156 tackles (67 solo), including 2.5 sacks, and three pass breakups, including two interceptions.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Participates in team drills Saturday

Schwesinger (undisclosed) was a full participant in Saturday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports. Schwesinger had not practiced with the team yet in August. The Defensive Rookie of the Year's return is a huge boon for the Browns' defense as the team heads into the Week 1 contest with the Jaguars. Schwesinger is the defensive shot caller for Cleveland, so him reclaiming his first-team reps from Nathaniel Watson should kick the Browns' defense into another gear.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Returning to practice Saturday

Schwesinger (undisclosed) will participate in Saturday's practice, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Schwesinger's participation level is yet to be seen, but it's encouraging sign for the second-year linebacker to return from an undisclosed injury. He has not played in any of the Browns' preseason games, but there's no indication that he's in jeopardy of missing Cleveland's regular-season opener against Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 13. The reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year will lead a Browns defense that swapped Myles Garrett for Jared Verse this offseason and also features 2025 first-rounder Mason Graham and five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Not in line to play Thursday

Schwesinger (undisclosed) isn't expected to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports. Schwesinger has been tending to an undisclosed injury since late July, but after a standout rookie campaign in 2025 in which he accounted for 156 tackles, including 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions among three pass defenses in 16 regular-season games, the Browns won't risk the health of the player donning the green dot in the middle of their defense.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Limited in return to practice

Schwesinger (undisclosed) returned to practice Monday as a limited participant, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Monday was the first time Schwesinger worked to the side since the first week of training camp, and the second-year linebacker is expected to increase his workload over the coming days, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com. It seems unlikely that Schwesinger will play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, but there's no indication he's in jeopardy of being sidelined for Week 1 against the Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 13.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Chance to practice next week

Schwesinger (ankle) could return to practice next week, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Schwesinger hasn't practiced since July 31 while nursing an ankle injury, but head coach Todd Monken noted Monday the team is being "overly cautious" with the linebacker. Monken said the hope is Schwesinger will return to practice next week. It doesn't appear the 23-year-old is at risk of missing any regular-season action with the injury.

Schwesinger (ankle) was named the 2025 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. He logged 156 total tackles across 16 regular-season games, while also logging 2.5 sacks and two interceptions. • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Heads to IR with ankle injury

The Browns placed Schwesinger (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday. Schwesinger was ruled out for the Browns' season finale Friday, but the move to injured reserve likely created space for Edefuan Ulofoshio to move up to the active roster. Schwesinger, a 2025 second-round pick, ends his stellar rookie campaign with 156 tackles (67 solo), including 2.5 sacks, and three pass breakups, including two interceptions. Jerome Baker will likely have an expanded role in Week 18 with Schwesinger out.

Schwesinger tallied 14 tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks, in a Week 16 loss to Buffalo on Sunday. Schwesinger dealt with an ankle issue during the week but was on the field for all 50 of Cleveland's defensive snaps Sunday. The injury didn't impact his performance, as the talented rookie racked up a career-high 14 stops for the second straight week. Among his tackles was a third-down sack of Josh Allen in the fourth quarter that forced a Buffalo punt. Schwesinger is up to 147 stops, including 2.5 sacks, on the campaign. He also has three defensed passes, including two interceptions.
