Coats will go on waivers and enter free agency if unclaimed, which would allow him to sign with a team in need of depth in the secondary. The West Virginia product logged six tackles (five solo) and two pass defenses (including an interception) across two preseason games with the Browns.

Coats sustained a leg injury during the Browns' training camp practice Tuesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Per Petrak, Coats needed assistance to leave the practice field and was not putting any weight on his right leg. Until Coats is able to return to action, free-agent acquisition Tyler Hall could see an uptick in reps in the secondary.
