  • Commanders' Kaytron Allen: Week 2 Waiver Priority List

Jacory Croskey-Merritt fumbled on the last possession for the Commanders at Philadelphia in Week 1, and even though Washington recovered the ball, Allen took over the backfield to end the game. It could be nothing, but it could also lead to a bigger role for the rookie. He finished the game with four carries for 16 yards and no targets, but you might want to stash Allen in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAAB. Allen could be more valuable than Rachaad White if Croskey-Merritt were to miss any time.

  • Commanders' Kaytron Allen: Limited action in NFL debut

Allen turned four carries into 16 yards during the Commanders' 24-22 loss to the Eagles on Sunday. Allen didn't record his first NFL carry until the third quarter, though he did log three rushes for 11 yards during the Commanders' final offensive drive of the game. The rookie sixth-rounder played only seven snaps on offense, well behind fellow running backs Jacory Croskey-Merritt (34) and Rachaad White (29). Allen figures to see limited work out of the Commanders backfield this season unless one or both of Croskey-Merritt and White were to miss time. Washington has another NFC East matchup on tap, a Week 2 road tilt against Dallas on Sept. 20.

  • Commanders' Kaytron Allen: Most carries in loss

Allen rushed 10 times for 30 yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason loss to the Lions. Allen once again saw the largest rushing workload for the Commanders, though his 10 rushes are significantly less than last Friday's 23. The running back also saw a target in the pass game, catching the ball even though it did not result in positive yardage. It appears Allen is continuing to prep for a tertiary rushing role in the 2026 campaign behind Jacory Croskey-Merritt (undisclosed) and Rachaad White (hamstring).

  • Commanders' Kaytron Allen: Sees heavy workload in win

Allen rushed 23 times for 85 yards and a touchdown and brought in one of two targets for one yard in the Commanders' 20-7 preseason win over the Dolphins on Friday. The rookie sixth-round pick improved his rushing numbers over the prior season in each of his last three years at Penn State, and Allen is now trying to nail down the No. 3 job in a veteran running back room. Going by the amount of playing time he saw Friday, it's clear the coaching staff is intrigued with his potential. Allen's first chance to build on his game-high rushing yardage total and one-yard touchdown run comes in a road preseason matchup against the Lions on Saturday, Aug. 22.

  • Commanders' Kaytron Allen: Scooped up by Commanders

Washington selected Allen in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 187th overall. Allen spent his entire four-year college career at Penn State, and he mostly served in a committee with Nicholas Singleton before emerging as the Nittany Lions' lead rusher in 2025. Allen was named to both the All-Big Ten First-Team and All-American Second Team last year, when he turned 210 carries into 1,303 yards (6.2 YPC) and 15 touchdowns while adding 18 catches for 68 yards across 12 games. He is a powerful runner that gets better as the game progresses, and while he doesn't have blazing speed, he has the vision, patience and strength to grind out yards. The Commanders will likely take the committee approach to their backfield under new offensive coordinator David Blough, though Allen will have the opportunity to emerge with a role, with his competition for snaps coming from Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols.
