  • Steelers' Drew Allar: Healthy scratch Week 1

Allar (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons. The Steelers opted to carry four quarterbacks on the 53-man active roster. Allar will observe Sunday's regular-season opener in street clothes while Will Howard (coach's decision) serves as Pittsburgh's emergency third quarterback behind starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Mason Rudolph. Allar figures to be a healthy scratch for most, if not all, games this season unless one of Rodgers, Rudolph or Howard were to miss time.

  • Steelers' Drew Allar: Makes little impact in preseason finale

Allar completed nine of 18 passes for 88 yards without a touchdown or interception in Thursday's 28-27 preseason loss to the Bills. Will Howard (head) played the entire first half and Allar the second, with both Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph getting the night off, but neither young quarterback did much to distinguish themselves in the battle for the No. 3 spot. Howard was evaluated for a potential concussion after the game, which could be enough to tip the scales in Allar's favor, although the Steelers always seemed likely to find a way to keep all four QBs on the roster. If Allar does make the cut, the 2026 third-round pick would need injuries ahead of him to see the field in a meaningful way as a rookie.

  • Steelers' Drew Allar: Produces three TDs in preseason win

Allar completed 10 of 13 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns while adding two rushing yards and another TD on two carries in Thursday's 28-9 preseason win over the Packers. The rookie third-round pick didn't see the field until late in the third quarter after Mason Rudolph and Will Howard had both gotten work under center, but Allar had the best night of any Steelers QB. Allar scored on a three-yard run to cap his first possession of the game before tossing a five-yard TD to Kaden Wetjen and a four-yard score to Riley Nowakowski in the fourth quarter. Aaron Rodgers is the unquestioned starter for Pittsburgh and Rudolph seems locked in as the top backup, but the team seems likely to keep both Howard and Allar on the roster rather than risk losing one of them to another team.

  • Steelers' Drew Allar: Fighting for a spot

Allar is set to work with the third-string offense in training camp, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Allar is set to compete with Will Howard, working with "the other groups" as Mason Rudolph takes snaps with the second-team offense. With Aaron Rodgers currently set to remain as the No. 1 quarterback, Allar and Howard will need to fight to take the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.
