The Steelers used a second-round pick in this year's NFL Draft on Bernard, but Fantasy managers should not use a draft pick on him outside of deep leagues and Dynasty leagues. It's not that we don't like Bernard's talent -- we just don't like his situation. Not only will he be behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman in the pecking order for targets, but third-year receiver Roman Wilson has clicked this preseason and relegated Bernard to a smaller role in practice. Wilson isn't known to stay healthy, so Bernard could be put into that slot-friendly spot at a moment's notice, but that's not enough to warrant using a late-round pick on him in redraft leagues. Expect Bernard to be an early Round 2 pick in Dynasty leagues, but it might take years for him to eventually out-target the likes of Metcalf and Pittman.

Steelers' Germie Bernard: Chance to shine in preseason opener
Rotowire
Bernard will have the opportunity to handle an expanded role in Thursday's preseason opener against the Packers due to injuries to both Michael Pittman (right leg) and DK Metcalf (undisclosed), Jacob Punturi of SI.com reports.
The Steelers released their initial depth chart Aug. 5, which had Roman Wilson pencilled in as the WR3 behind Pittman and Metcalf, while Bernard was listed as a second-teamer. A second-round selection of the Steelers in the 2026 NFL Draft, Bernard has been battling against Wilson for a spot in three-wide sets, and Thursday's preseason game will provide a stage on which both wideouts can audition for that role.

Steelers' Germie Bernard: Battling Wilson for WR3 spot
Rotowire
Bernard got most of his reps in the slot with the first-team offense at Friday's practice, Alan Saunders of Steelers Now reports.
Bernard is competing for the third spot on the wide receiver depth chart with Roman Wilson, who mostly worked on the outside with the second-team offense Friday. That usage marked a departure from Wednesday's practice, when Wilson logged most of the reps in three-receiver sets alongside DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman. Bernard has also seen some time on the outside, with Wilson shifting into the slot, so the Steelers are still identifying their best combinations and pecking order at wide receiver at this early stage of training camp. Bernard is a rookie second-round pick, while Wilson was a third-round selection in 2024.

Steelers' Germie Bernard: Taken by Pittsburgh in second round
Rotowire
The Steelers selected Bernard in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 47th overall.
Bernard spent the last two seasons of his four-year college career at Alabama, where he operated mostly as the team's Z receiver and finished the 2025 campaign with 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns across 14 games. He posted the fastest three-cone time at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine (6.71 seconds), and he has the overall athleticism and skill set that should allow him to serve as an immediate contributor for the Steelers, whether it's Aaron Rodgers or another quarterback throwing passes to him. Bernard figures to slide in as the team's WR3 behind veterans DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman and ahead of 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson.
