We don't know how long Michael Pittman (foot) will be out, but he missed Week 2 at New England, which allowed Bernard and Roman Wilson (2 percent rostered) to have bigger roles. Bernard had four catches for 35 yards on eight targets, and Wilson had five catches for 28 yards on six targets. Both are only worth adding in deeper leagues, with Bernard the preferred option, for 1 percent of your remaining FAAB, and we'll see if they fare better in Week 3 against Cincinnati. But both could become irrelevant if Pittman plays against the Bengals.

Bernard caught four passes on eight targets for 35 yards during the Steelers' 20-3 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
The rookie second-rounder operated as the WR3 due to the absence of Michael Pittman (foot). Aaron Rodgers struggled at Gillette Stadium, but Bernard did his part by leading the Steelers pass catchers in receiving yards while finishing second in catches behind Roman Wilson (five) and second in targets to DK Metcalf (nine). Pittman's status for Week 3 against the Bengals on Sept. 27 is up in the air, but even if he was ruled out, Bernard's production (along with the other Steelers pass catchers) will be capped unless Rodgers improves his play.

Steelers' Germie Bernard: Set for larger role Sunday

Bernard is set to be the No. 3 option at wide receiver in Sunday's game against the Patriots, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
The second-round rookie will have his first opportunity as a starting member of the Steelers offense due to Michael Pittman (foot) being ruled out ahead of the contest. Bernard saw just three offensive snaps in the team's Week 1 win over the Falcons, a number that should skyrocket in Week 2.
Bernard played three of Pittsburgh's 67 offensive snaps during Sunday's 20-13 win versus the Falcons.
Bernard was able to make his pro debut in Week 1, but it didn't result in any production in the box score. Only DK Metcalf (60), Michael Pittman (56) and 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson (35) saw any snaps at wide receiver for the Steelers on Sunday.

The Steelers rested their starters and key personnel, but Bernard played the first quarter and connected with Will Howard (head) on a one-play scoring drive after Buffalo's Ray Davis muffed a punt. Bernard's usage Thursday would seem to suggest he'll begin the season No. 4 on the wide receiver depth chart behind DK Metcalf (undisclosed), Michael Pittman (hamstring) and Roman Wilson, but the 2026 second-round pick could find himself in a key role early if either of the injured veterans ahead of him wind up not being ready for Week 1.

Both DK Metcalf (undisclosed) and Michael Pittman (hamstring) were sidelined for Friday's exhibition contest, so Bernard joined Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek in the Steelers' first-team offense. The offense struggled with both Will Howard and Drew Allar under center, and Bernard failed to log any receiving yards despite playing 29 snaps. While it's encouraging that Bernard took advantage of his opportunity, and he did out-produce his main competition for the WR3 role in Roman Wilson, he still has a lot to prove to land on the fantasy radar in most formats.

Bernard will have the opportunity to handle an expanded role in Thursday's preseason opener against the Packers due to injuries to both Michael Pittman (right leg) and DK Metcalf (undisclosed), Jacob Punturi of SI.com reports.
The Steelers released their initial depth chart Aug. 5, which had Roman Wilson pencilled in as the WR3 behind Pittman and Metcalf, while Bernard was listed as a second-teamer. Bernard spent the last two seasons of his four-year college career at Alabama, where he operated mostly as the team's Z receiver and finished the 2025 campaign with 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns across 14 games. He posted the fastest three-cone time at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine (6.71 seconds), and he has the overall athleticism and skill set that should allow him to serve as an immediate contributor for the Steelers, whether it's Aaron Rodgers or another quarterback throwing passes to him. Bernard figures to slide in as the team's WR3 behind veterans DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman and ahead of 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson.
