The Chargers reverted Patterson to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Patterson got his first elevation of the campaign for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs and played one snap on special teams. That was his first regular-season action since he suited up in three contests for the Commanders in 2022. With J.K. Dobbins (knee) on IR for at least two more games, Patterson could get additional elevations, though it's unlikely he'll see much action on offense.

Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Elevated by Bolts for Week 14
Rotowire
The Chargers elevated Patterson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad in early September after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. It's his first elevation of the 2024 campaign, though he'll likely be restricted to a special teams role, if he plays, as the Chargers already have Gus Edwards, Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins in the backfield. Patterson last saw NFL regular-season action in 2022 with the Commanders, and across three games he turned 17 carries into 78 yards.

Jaret Patterson: Joins Chargers' practice squad
Rotowire
Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Patterson was let go by the Bolts in late August after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster, but he's now found a spot on the practice squad. The 24-year-old running back's last regular-season action came in 2022 with the Commanders, when he appeared in three games and recorded 78 rushing yards on 17 attempts.

Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Pushing for No. 3 job
Rotowire
Patterson is believed to be the leading candidate for the Chargers' No. 3 running back job, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
According to Popper, Patterson has gotten the most reps with the first-team offense behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards while notably running ahead of Kimani Vidal, Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson. Patterson was also the first running back to get into the Chargers' first preseason game this past Saturday against the Seahawks, finishing with seven carries for 38 yards. Patterson spent most of the 2023 season on Los Angeles' practice squad before a short stint back in Washington. He has 85 career carries for 344 yards and two touchdowns, with each of his 20 career appearances coming in a Washington uniform.

Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Taking some first-team reps
Rotowire
Patterson got a lot of first-team snaps during practice Thursday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
With Gus Edwards (undisclosed) limited to individual drills and sixth-round pick Kimani Vidal working with the backups, J.K. Dobbins and Patterson seem to be getting most of the first-team RB snaps early in training camp. Patterson nonetheless seems more likely to find himself on the roster bubble than competing for a significant Week 1 role, considering he went undrafted back in 2021 and didn't make a regular-season appearance last year. He spent most of 2022 on the Commanders' practice squad and most of 2023 on the Chargers' practice squad.

Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Joins Chargers
Rotowire
The Chargers signed Patterson to a reserve/future deal Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Patterson wasn't able to make his way onto the field this season, but he'll now get a chance to compete for a spot on the Chargers' 53-man roster for 2024. He probably lacks the size to ever take on a workhorse role.

Jaret Patterson: Latches on with Washington
Rotowire
Patterson signed with the Commanders' practice squad Tuesday.
The Commanders are dealing with injuries throughout their backfield, as Brian Robinson (hamstring), Chris Rodriguez (ankle) and Jonathan Williams (concussion) are all banged up. Patterson played in 20 games for Washington across the 2021-22 seasons, rushing 85 times for 344 yards and two touchdowns.

Jaret Patterson: Gets new opportunity
Rotowire
Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad Wednesday.
Patterson spent camp with the Commanders, as well as the previous two seasons, but was unable to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. He'll now be an emergency option for Los Angeles, while he tries to earn a permanent spot on their active roster.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Makes final case for spot
Rotowire
Patterson took eight carries for 51 yards in Saturday's 21-19 preseason loss to the Bengals.
Patterson was the third back into the game, after Chris Rodriguez and Jonathan Williams, on a night that saw both Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson rested. Patterson thus appears unlikely to have a spot on the Week 1 roster, perhaps sticking around via the practice squad instead.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Bumps up to 53-man roster
Rotowire
The Commanders signed Patterson from the practice squad to their active roster Thursday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
With fellow running backs Antonio Gibson (knee) and J.D. McKissic (neck) both on injured reserve and Brian Robinson (knee) currently listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Patterson could find himself working in a backfield committee alongside Jonathan Williams in Week 18. The 23-year-old has seen game action on two separate occasions this campaign but has yet to register an offensive rep.

Jaret Patterson: Likely to be elevated Week 17
Rotowire
Patterson is expected to be elevated to the active roster with Commanders' No. 2 running back Antonio Gibson (knee/foot) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Patterson was previously bumped up from the practice squad for the Commanders' Week 4 win over the Eagles. However, the second-year running ultimately played just four special-teams snaps in that contest, so he'll likely slot into a similar role behind Brian Robinson and Jonathan Williams.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Elevated for MNF
Rotowire
Patterson was elevated from Washington's practice squad ahead of Monday's game against the Eagles.
Patterson will provide backfield depth behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson with J.D. McKissic (neck) unavailable. He rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season with Washington but has spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign on the practice squad up to this point.

Jaret Patterson: Waived by Commanders
Rotowire
Patterson was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Patterson had a strong preseason, rushing for 63 yards and a score on 16 carries while also catching five passes for 47 yards over three games. In the end though, he failed to make the Commanders' final roster and could end up on a new squad. With Brian Robinson (lower body) out for the foreseeable future, it's possible that Patterson returns to the Commanders' practice squad and gets elevated at some point early in the season.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Stars in preseason finale
Rotowire
Patterson took 11 carries for 47 yards and four catches for 45 yards in Saturday's 17-15 preseason loss to Baltimore.
Patterson was busy throughout the night, especially in the first half, while Antonio Gibson, Brian Robinson, J.D. McKissic (groin) and Jonathan Williams all were held out. Patterson, a 2021 UDFA, may end up on the practice squad, but he's shown vision and balance to offset his lack of size and speed, potentially making him a decent depth back in the NFL. There's not much hope for Week 1 touches even if he makes the team.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Part of crowded backfield
Rotowire
Patterson enters his second NFL season as part of a crowded Washington backfield that includes starter Antonio Gibson, passing-down specialist J.D. McKissic and rookie third-round pick Brian Robinson, Bijan Todd of NBC Sports reports.
Injuries could create more room, but the current group puts Patterson on the roster bubble, perhaps competing with Jonathan Williams and Reggie Bonnafon for one spot. Patterson did make one start last year after catching on as an undrafted rookie, and his respectable showing in that outing (98 total yards and a TD) could work in his favor this summer. Still, he's worth a look in only the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Totals 98 yards
Rotowire
Patterson rushed the ball 12 times for 57 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Philadelphia. He added five receptions for 41 yards.
Patterson dominated work out of Washington's backfield in the absence of Antonio Gibson (hip/undisclosed). He accounted for 12 of Washington's 22 rushing attempts, though no other back recorded more than four carries. Patterson also made the most of his opportunity, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt while also opening the scoring in the contest with an 11-yard dash to the end zone early in the first quarter. While that was positive enough, Patterson also also finished second on the team in receptions and third in receiving yards. Assuming Gibson returns for a Week 18 matchup against the Giants, Patterson will likely be relegated back to a peripheral role in the offense.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Gets nine carries
Rotowire
Patterson took nine carries for 33 yards in Sunday's 56-14 loss to Dallas, playing 25 percent of snaps on offense.
The rookie got five of his nine carries in the fourth quarter, though both he and Jonathan Williams subbed in for Antonio Gibson at times before the game got completely out of hand. Gibson is playing through a toe injury and may not be at his best, but he still managed 58 total yards and a TD on only 37 percent of snaps. Any limitations over the final two weeks would set up Patterson and Williams for larger roles.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Larger role could await
Rotowire
Patterson may be headed for a larger role in Washington's game plan Sunday in Dallas with lead back Antonio Gibson (toe) listed as questionable after not practicing in any capacity this week, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
According to Matthew Paras of The Washington Times, head coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Gibson is dealing with an injury similar to the case of turf toe that sidelined the running back for two games in 2020. While Rivera noted that Gibson feels better this time around compared to last season, Standig also relayed that the coach "wasn't oozing with optimism" about the 23-year-old's chances of playing. Even if Gibson suits up Sunday, Washington could still look to lighten his workload to some degree, given that the Football Team is playing on a short week and along with the fact that he's coming off a 21-touch outing against the Eagles. Patterson has logged eight carries for 49 yards and a touchdown over the past two games, with his healthy 6.1 yards-per-carry average potentially setting him up for more work in the next few weeks even if Gibson was in better health.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Reaches end zone against Eagles
Rotowire
Patterson rushed four times for 20 yards and a touchdown in Tuesday's 27-17 loss to the Eagles.
Patterson has now topped 20 yards in three of the last five games. J.D. McKissic (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, so Patterson should continue to see a slight uptick in work behind lead back Antonio Gibson.

Football Team's Jaret Patterson: Gets four more carries
Rotowire
Patterson took four carries for seven yards in a 29-19 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday.
The undrafted rookie played five snaps (seven percent) and took one carry in each of the game's four quarters. It was a smaller workload than what Patterson got directly before Washington's Week 9 bye, but that was in a 17-10 loss to Denver during which Antonio Gibson's shin injury flared up. While it could still be an issue again, Gibson managed 24 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's upset win, with no report of a setback along the way. That likely limits Patterson to a handful of touches, or perhaps even less, in Week 11 against the Panthers.
