Concerns For Lions Following Sunday Night Football Loss

Fantasy News

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Playing through injury Thursday

Sewell (ankle) is active Thursday for a Thanksgiving battle against the Packers. Sewell will continue to play despite an ankle injury that has made him a frequent presence on the injury report over the past three weeks. He's set to take on his usual starting role at right tackle for Detroit.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Listed as questionable

Sewell (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Thursday's game against the Packers. Sewell has played through various injuries most of the season, and he's specifically dealt with the ankle issue for the last three weeks. Sewell was limited for the entire week during Detroit's walkthroughs, which suggests he has a solid chance to suit up Thursday against the Packers.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Active Sunday

Sewell (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants. The starting right tackle played through an ankle injury last week against the Eagles and was limited in practice to end the week leading up to this game. Sewell has started all 10 of Detroit's games this season.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: DNP at walkthrough Wednesday

Sewell (ankle) didn't participate in Detroit's walkthrough practice Wednesday. Sewell managed to play through the injury during the Week 11 loss to the Eagles and should be on track to suit up for Sunday's matchup versus the Giants. If he ends up being unable to play, however, Dan Skipper likely would start at right tackle in his place.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Dealing with ankle issue

Sewell (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday. Sewell dealt with a shoulder issue last week and logged a DNP/LP/FP practice progression before suiting up Sunday versus Washington. However, he picked up an ankle injury in that contest and has started Week 11 prep as a DNP. Sewell will likely need to return to practice in some capacity before the weekend to have a chance of suiting up Sunday versus Philadelphia.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Will play Week 10

Sewell (shoulder) does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Commanders. Sewell has been cleared to play Sunday and start at right tackle after posting a DNP/LP/FP practice log while managing a shoulder injury.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Returns to practice

Sewell (shoulder) was a limited participant at practice Thursday. Sewell was able to return to the practice field after sitting out the first session of the week Wednesday with a shoulder issue. • Lions' Penei Sewell: No practice Wednesday

Sewell (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday. Sewell has been on the injury report throughout the season with a variety of issues, and he exited Detroit's Week 9 loss with a lower-body injury. Sewell's progress throughout the rest of the week should provide a clearer indication of his availability.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Injures thumb on MNF

Sewell suffered a thumb injury in Monday night's win over 49ers, but coach Dan Campbell said Sewell shouldn't miss any time, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. Sewell was able to finish the game without much of an issue, so it sounds like the team expects him to be out there next Sunday night against the Vikings with the division title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC on the line. If Sewell were unable to play, Dan Skipper would be the next man up at right tackle for Detroit.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Questionable for Week 2

Sewell (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest versus Tampa Bay. Sewell has been dealing with an ankle injury since late August, but he was able to play Week 1 versus the Rams. However, the right tackle sat out of practice both Wednesday and Thursday this week before logging a limited session Friday. If Sewell is unable to suit up Sunday, Dan Skipper may be asked to step into a starting role.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Should be good for Week 1

Head coach Dan Campbell appeared optimistic Saturday that Sewell (ankle) will be good to go for Week 1 against the Rams, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Sewell was forced to leave Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, but the MRI came back negative. Sewell has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons as the Lions' starting right tackle, and he has started in all 50 regular-season games he's played over the last three years.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Avoids serious injury

The Lions classified the foot injury Sewell suffered in Wednesday's practice as a rolled ankle after an MRI returned negative, Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press reports. After sustaining the injury, Sewell was able to walk off the field and into the team's facility under his own power. With the MRI bringing good news, the expectation is that Sewell will be ready to go for the Lions' Week 1 matchup with the Rams on Sept. 8. The 23-year-old right tackle made Pro Bowls both of the past two seasons and has played 50 of 51 games since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2021.

  • Lions' Penei Sewell: Returns to practice

Sewell (concussion) participated in Lions camp Wednesday after missing the three prior practices with a head injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Sewell suffered a brain injury less than a week ago but has since been cleared to return to the field. Detroit will be happy to have their cornerstone tackle back, as he's started every game for the Lions since being drafted in 2021 and has already received Pro Bowl honors. Expect the 22-year-old to continue holding down the right side of Detroit's offensive line for years to come.
