Browns' Alex Wright: Moved to IR with ruptured Achilles
The Browns placed Wright on injured reserve Sunday due to a ruptured Achilles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Wright picked up the injury during Thursday's joint practice with the Bills during a one-on-one drill with offensive tackle Spencer Brown. Follow-up tests revealed the extent of Wright's injury, which will sideline the 2022 third-rounder for the upcoming season. Isaiah McGuire is slated to start at defensive end opposite Jared Verse for the upcoming season, with the Browns adding depth to the position by signing Derek Barnett to a one-year contract.

Browns' Alex Wright: Likely to sit Saturday
Wright (lower leg) is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Wright was carted off the field Thursday with a leg injury. The defensive end was unable to put weight on his leg and likely will remain indisposed for a significant period. With Wright out, Isaiah McGuire and Julian Okwara may see a significant uptick in snaps in preparation for a potential starting role.

Browns' Alex Wright: Carted off Thursday
Wright was carted off the practice field Thursday with an apparent lower leg injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Wright was unable to put any weight on his leg while getting on the cart. The 25-year-old edge defender set career highs in playing time (55 percent of the defensive snaps), tackles (37) and sacks (5.5) across 14 regular-season appearances last season. He entered training camp expected to push for a starting role opposite Jared Verse on Cleveland's defensive line, although his availability is now in question until more information about the severity of the injury is gathered.

Browns' Alex Wright: Records career highs in 2025
Wright had career highs in tackles (37) and sacks (5.5) along with one pass defensed and one forced fumble over 14 regular-season games in 2025.
Like other players on the defensive line, Wright operated outside the limelight that shone on Myles Garrett, who established a new NFL record with 23.0 sacks in 2025. However, Wright's most productive season of his four-year career did not go unnoticed, as the Browns signed him to a three-year extension in November of 2025. Playing opposite Garrett, who draws a lot of attention, could lead to more sacks for Wright in 2026.

Browns' Alex Wright: Good to go
Wright (quadriceps) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Titans, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Wright missed the Browns' Week 13 loss to the 49ers with a quadriceps injury, but three practices capped off with a full session Friday were enough to avoid an injury designation for Sunday's contest. The return of the starting defensive end opposite Myles Garrett is a huge boon for a Browns defensive line that is already without Maliek Collins (quadriceps) and potentially without Mason Graham (ribs).

Browns' Alex Wright: Out for Week 13
Wright (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
After signing a three-year, $33 million extension last week, Wright will miss his second straight game with the injury. Cameron Thomas should again play increased defensive snaps against San Francisco after recording six tackles, including 1.0 sacks, against Las Vegas last Sunday.

Browns' Alex Wright: Logs DNP on Wednesday
Wright (quadriceps) is not practicing Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Wright was sidelined for the Browns' Week 12 win over the Raiders due to a quadriceps injury, and Wednesday's DNP suggests he's still dealing with the issue. The UAB product is one of Cleveland's top defensive linemen, having recorded 24 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, and a forced fumble in nine appearances this season. He likely needs to practice in full either Thursday or Friday to avoid an injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the 49ers.
