  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Lands on IR

The Dolphins placed Huntley (shoulder) on injured reserve Friday. Huntley's move to IR comes on the same day that Tua Tagovailoa officially cleared the NFL's concussion protocol. As a result of the transaction, Huntley won't be available before Week 12. With Tagovailoa slated to reclaim starting duties Sunday against the Cardinals, the loss of Huntley leaves Miami with Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle and practice-squad member C.J. Beathard as potential backup options at quarterback.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Misses Wednesday's practice

Huntley (right shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. When asked about Huntley's availability as Sunday's game against the Cardinals approaches, head coach Mike McDaniel noted, "I don't think (Huntley) is going to be available this week." While Huntley's Week 8 status is cloudy, Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) returned to a limited practice Wednesday and is trending toward a return to the starting lineup this weekend. If that happens and Huntley is unavailable, Miami's backup options versus Arizona would be Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle and C.J. Beathard.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Hurts shoulder Sunday

Huntley was forced out of Sunday's game against the Colts with a right shoulder injury. Before sustaining his injury, Huntley completed seven of his 13 passing attempts for 87 yards and a TD and logged five carries for 20 yards. In his absence, Tim Boyle is in at QB for the Dolphins, with Skylar Thompson serving as the team's emergency third quarterback.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Likely getting another start

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday he would "guess to forecast" that Huntley will start Week 7 against the Colts even if Skylar Thompson (ribs) returns to full health, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports. Miami managed to scrape to a 15-10 win over the Patriots with Huntley under center Week 5, but he completed just 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Huntley's dual-threat capabilities also weren't much of a factor, as he rushed only three times for seven yards. Still, Huntley has looked like the Dolphins' most capable quarterback option with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) not eligible to come off IR until Week 8. With the benefit of a bye to continue improving his grasp on the offensive system, Huntley will look to command a more productive offense on the road in Indianapolis on Sunday, Oct. 20.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Pedestrian numbers in win

Huntley completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for seven yards in the Dolphins' 15-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday. Huntley put together another lackluster performance overall, and unlike in a Monday night loss to the Titans six days earlier, he couldn't complement his passing production with his legs. However, Huntley did look smoother when dropping back, more than doubling the 96 passing yards he'd mustered versus Tennessee and connecting with the trio of Tyreek Hill, Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Waddle on 15 occasions. Given Miami was able to pull off the road win, Huntley figures to retain the starting job for a Week 7 road matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 20 following a Week 6 bye, the final game before Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is eligible to come off injured reserve.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Set for another start

Coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Huntley will start for Miami on the road against New England on Sunday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Huntley was mediocre in his Dolphins debut during Monday's 31-12 loss to the Titans, in which he completed 14 of 22 passes for just 96 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also rushed eight times for 40 yards and one score, providing a bit of a spark for Miami's rusty offense. McDaniel said Skylar Thompson (ribs) is taking longer than expected to recover, per Alain Poupart of SI.com, which informed the team's decision to name Huntley the Week 5 starter. A matchup against the Patriots provides Huntley with a solid bounce-back opportunity, given that New England has allowed the fifth-most passing yards in the NFL this season.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: In consideration for Week 4 start

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Huntley is a "possibility" to start Monday's game against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Dolphins signed Huntley off Baltimore's practice squad ahead of the team's Week 3 loss to Seattle, a game in which Skylar Thompson (rib) and Tim Boyle both struggled to get anything going on offense. Huntley has had limited time to integrate himself to Miami's scheme, but the dual-threat abilities he flashed during his time with the Ravens could nonetheless give the Dolphins the best chance to win of their current options at the quarterback position. McDaniel hinted Tuesday that the team may hold an open competition at the quarterback position during practices this week, according to Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post, though Thompson is considered day-to-day due to the rib injury sustained in the loss to the Seahawks.

  • Dolphins' Tyler Huntley: Poached by Miami

The Dolphins are slated to sign Huntley off the Ravens' practice squad Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Huntley joins Miami's active roster with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) working his way through the NFL's protocol for brain injuries, and without a timeline for his return. The Dolphins look primed to start Skylar Thompson on the road versus Seattle on Sunday, but once Huntley is up to speed with the offense, he could be a candidate to make appearances under center. The 26-year-old spent the offseason in Cleveland before returning to Baltimore in early September.

  • Tyler Huntley: Will work as emergency third QB

Huntley, who recently signed to Baltimore's practice squad, will work as the Ravens' No. 3 quarterback at the start of the regular season, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. After Huntley was released by Cleveland on Thursday, the Ravens quickly swooped in to reunite with the veteran signal-caller. There was some initial thought that Huntley would immediately take over as Baltimore's backup quarterback in place of Josh Johnson, but for the time being Johnson will remain the first option behind Lamar Jackson while Huntley begins the campaign in the emergency QB role. Huntley could eventually retake the No. 2 slot that he held over the previous four seasons.

  • Tyler Huntley: Reunion with Ravens coming

Huntley is expected to sign a contract with Baltimore on Friday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Huntley has previously thrived as the backup to Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens are in need of an upgrade at the No. 2 spot over the 38-year-old Josh Johnson. Over the last four years with Baltimore, Huntley logged 20 appearances and nine starts. His effectiveness as a rusher will allow the Ravens to maintain some cohesiveness on offense even in the event that Jackson is forced to miss time at some point this season. The 26-year-old spent the offseason in Cleveland before being released by the team Thursday.

  • Browns' Tyler Huntley: Could be traded

The Browns will field trade offers for Huntley after the team kept four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. In addition to Huntley, the Browns are reportedly also entertaining offers on Jameis Winston. The implication is that the Browns view Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the team's top backup to Deshaun Watson.

  • Browns' Tyler Huntley: Plays second half

Huntley completed 14 of 20 passes for 135 yards with two interceptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings. He also gained 19 yards on four carries. Huntley, who ended up leading the club in rushing yards, spent most of the time scrambling, as the Browns sustained multiple injuries along the offensive line. He played the second half after Dorian Thompson-Robinson opened the game, and the two are locked in a battle for the No. 3 job, per Zac Jackson of The Athletic. The Browns like Huntley's ability to scramble and extend plays, but he was forced to run too much Saturday.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Capable showing in contract year

Huntley finished the 2023 regular season having completed 21 of 37 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns over five games. He added 15 carries for 55 yards. The bulk of Huntley's production came in his lone start during the final game of the regular season, when he went 15 for 28 for 146 yards with one touchdown. His other appearances came in blowout wins over the Browns, Lions, Seahawks and Dolphins. Huntley could be heading toward an impasse with the Ravens, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent just as Lamar Jackson's $260 million contract extension kicks in, Baltimore may opt for a more cost-efficient backup quarterback as a result. The fact that the team traded for rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham during the season only strengthens that notion. Should Huntley hit the open market, he'd be a strong option for any team looking to bolster its quarterback room. However, it's unlikely that he would be brought in anywhere with a serious expectation to start.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Backup QB for Sunday

Huntley is active for Sunday's contest against the Steelers. Huntley will serve as the backup quarterback behind Lamar Jackson, while Josh Johnson will act as the emergency quarterback for Week 5.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Third QB in Week 1

Huntley is the Ravens' inactive third QB for Sunday's game against the Texans, Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reports. Per Wacker, Huntley indicated Friday that he wasn't quite back from a hamstring issue. As a result, Josh Johnson is slated to serve as Baltimore's No. 2 QB behind Lamar Jackson on Sunday.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Should be available Week 1

Huntley (hamstring) wasn't listed on Baltimore's injury report Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game versus Houston. Despite murmurs back in August that he was in danger of being placed on IR due to a hamstring issue, Huntley looks poised to start the season on the active roster behind Lamar Jackson. Jackson has missed at least one game in all but one of his five NFL seasons, so Huntley knows he needs to stay warm.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Expected to avoid IR

Head coach John Harbaugh said Monday that he doesn't foresee Huntley (hamstring) going on injured reserve, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. This is a positive update for the backup quarterback, but it remains unclear when he'll be healthy again. Huntley tweaked his hamstring during the Ravens' preseason opener and hasn't practiced or played since. Josh Johnson and Anthony Brown are also on the roster, but if the Ravens are content with Huntley's health, they may cut the other two backups ahead of the 53-man roster deadline Tuesday.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Misses another practice

Huntley (hamstring) isn't practicing Saturday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Huntley tweaked his hamstring during last Saturday's preseason contest against Philadelphia and didn't practice at all this week. The injury was initially described as minor, so the Ravens may be acting out of an abundance of caution in opting to hold him out. Huntley seems unlikely to play in Monday's exhibition game in Washington, but there's no indication that he's in danger of missing the start of the regular season.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Remains sidelined

Huntley (hamstring) still isn't practicing as of Wednesday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Huntley left Saturday's preseason opener against the Eagles with the injury and hasn't yet been cleared to resume team drills. His exit from the contest was labeled as precautionary, though it's possible the team is still playing it safe with Huntley in practice, too. Huntley should be locked into the No. 2 role at quarterback behind starter Lamar Jackson.

  • Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Dealing with minor hamstring tweak

Huntley left Saturday's preseason contest late with a hamstring tweak, but the issue is expected to be minor, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Huntley was sharp in his limited action, completing eight of 11 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown while rushing twice for 13 yards in the 20-19 win. The Ravens were presumably being precautionary when they sent the undrafted fourth-year quarterback to the locker room, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Huntley miss a couple practices this week to make sure he's back to 100 percent before next Monday's preseason matchup in Washington.
