Mitchell Tinsley: Joining Houston's practice squad

Tinsley signed with Houston's practice squad Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The fourth-year wideout played in all 17 games for the Bengals in 2025, stringing together an 8-116-2 line on 24 targets while handling a depth role in the receiving corps. Tinsley was unable to win a spot on the Bengals' roster coming out of training camp, but he could have a clearer path to seeing playing time in Houston at some point in 2026 with Jayden Higgins (knee) out for the season and Tank Dell (knee) set to miss at least the team's first four games.

The wide receiver caught eight passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns for the Bengals in 2025. He also played on 123 special-teams snaps and agreed to a one-year extension with the team in January, but he fell short of the 53-man roster for 2026 after a competition with rookie fourth-round pick Colbie Young and former Canadian Football League player Dohnte Meyers. The Penn State product operated as the Bengals' No. 3 wideout Sunday while Tee Higgins (concussion) was sidelined. However, Tinsley saw just two targets, with the vast majority of Cincinnati's receiving work going to Ja'Marr Chase and Chase Brown, who combined to catch 17 of 23 targets for 169 yards. Tinsley played 53 offensive snaps (66 percent) due to Tee Higgins sitting out with a concussion. Many of his targets were contested plays, suggesting that he had a hard time gaining separation from the Ravens' defensive backs. For all of Tinsley's developments and heroics Monday night, he still faces an uphill battle to make the Bengals' 53-man roster. He would need the Bengals to keep six receivers in addition to the top five of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Andrei Iosivas, Jermaine Burton and Charlie Jones. It's more likely that Tinsley will be a practice squad player for the Bengals in the event of an injury, or maybe he'll put up some good reps on tape for other teams scouting the Bengals while looking for a depth piece.
