  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Goes on IL with sprained wrist

The Orioles placed Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left wrist, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mountcastle initially suffered the injury while sliding into second base during last Thursday's game against the Astros and did not recover quickly enough to avoid a stint on the IL. He will be eligible to return Sept. 2, although it's unclear at this point whether he has a chance for activation on that date. Ryan O'Hearn should see most of the action at first base while Mountcastle is sidelined, with Eloy Jimenez picking up some playing time at designated hitter.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Begins hitting progression

Soderstrom (wrist) has been hitting off a tee and is slated to start a soft toss hitting program near the end of the week, MLB.com reports.

The rookie has been ramping up his activity level in recent days, playing catch for the first first time on Wednesday and then advancing to swinging a bat over the weekend. Soderstrom still projects for a return at some point in September, which would give him an opportunity to build some momentum before heading into what is expected to be a key offseason for his development.

  • Justin Turner 1B | CHC

Mariners' Justin Turner: Two more hits Sunday

Turner went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Giants.

Turner's first multi-hit effort since Aug. 10 marked his sixth straight start hitting safely, albeit all via singles. The veteran has recorded just two extra-base hits across 66 plate appearances this month, and with 25 extra-base hits through 110 games, he's on pace for his lowest total in that category in a non-pandemic-shortened season since 2014. The lack of pop has resulted in him falling into a short-side platoon role, as he's started in only one of the Mariners' last three matchups with right-handed pitchers.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: On base four times Sunday

Guerrero went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Angels.

The first baseman continues to torment just about every pitcher he faces. Guerrero has recorded at least one extra-base hit in 11 of 21 games in August, slashing .367/.462/.734 over that stretch with nine doubles, a triple, six homers, 15 RBI and 16 runs. His .952 OPS on the season is tied with Rafael Devers for fourth in the American League, behind only Aaron Judge (1.201), Juan Soto (1.035) and Bobby Witt (1.007).

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Goes deep in loss

Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBI and a walk in Sunday's loss to Detroit.

Vaughn knocked an RBI double in the first inning before ripping a solo shot in the third. He ended a 12-game homerless drought, though he did hit .311 during that power slump. After hitting just .188 in July, Vaughn has gone 23-for-72 (.319) with 10 extra-base hits in August. For the year, he owns a .246/.300/.406 slash line with 15 home runs and 57 RBI.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Another two-hit day

Casas went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Casas notched his eighth home run of the campaign Sunday, tagging Merrill Kelly for a solo shot in the first inning. The outing marked the first baseman's fifth multi-hit performance in eight games. He's 11-for-30 with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored during that stretch.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Absence continuing Sunday

Mountcastle (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The 27-year-old will sit for the third straight game as he continues to manage a wrist injury. Mountcastle will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers. Emmanuel Rivera is manning first base in Sunday's series finale for Baltimore.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Should return Tuesday

Schanuel (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Schanuel is on the bench for a second straight game due to a back issue, though he's expected to rejoin the lineup Tuesday in Detroit following Monday's team off day. Niko Kavadas will receive another look at first base while Taylor Ward serves as the designated hitter.

  • Ben Rice C | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Taking seat against southpaw

Rice is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The lefty-hitting Rice has been included in the starting nine for the Yankees' last two matchups with left-handed pitchers, but he'll hit the bench Sunday against Rockies southpaw Austin Gomber with platoon mate DJ LeMahieu (face) ready to return to the lineup. LeMahieu had been scheduled to start at first base Friday against Rockies southpaw Kyle Freeland but was scratched as a precaution after he was hit in the face by a ball during pregame warmups.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Homers in Saturday's win

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI, one walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 13-5 win over the Rangers.

Naylor entered Saturday stuck in an 0-for-18 slump. He extended it with a groundout in the first inning that generated a run, and then he finally put it to rest with a sixth-inning homer. The first baseman is batting .222 (18-for-81) over 22 contests in August, though he's helped offset his struggles in the average department by drawing 11 walks and driving in 17 runs in that span. For the year, Naylor has 28 homers, 91 RBI, 71 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .238/.319/.469 slash line through 121 games.
