  • Kevin Padlo 1B | LAD

Rays' Kevin Padlo: Designated for assignment

The Rays designated Padlo for assignment Tuesday.

Padlo made his big-league debut earlier in the year but didn't make much of an impression in limited action, going 1-for-12 with eight strikeouts. He's also struggled mightily at the Triple-A level, slashing .194/.270/.379 with a 33.0 percent strikeout rate in 69 games for Durham. That might be enough to dissuade other teams from claiming him, though he's just 25 years old and was considered at least a fringe prospect heading into the year, so it's possible a team decides he's worth taking a chance on.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Returns from concussion

Mountcastle (concussion) was activated off the injured list Tuesday.

Mountcastle's concussion wound up costing him 10 days, but he's ready to go now just two days after resuming baseball activities. He'd been swinging a very hot bat immediately prior to his absence, homering three times while building an eight-game hitting streak. Ryan McKenna was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Resumes on-field work

Rizzo (illness) was cleared to participate in baseball activities on the field prior to Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Though Rizzo appears to have cleared all health and safety-related protocols after testing positive for COVID-19 more than a week ago, the Yankees won't yet activate him from the injured list. Instead, the Yankees will likely wait and see how he feels physically after taking batting practice and going through drills Tuesday before determining if he's ready to return for Wednesday's series finale with Boston. Whenever Rizzo is reinstated from the IL, he should quickly take back everyday duties at first base from Luke Voit.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Still out Monday

Diaz (thumb) is not in the lineup Monday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz will be on the bench for the third straight game as he continues to battle a sprained left thumb. He was reportedly available off the bench Sunday in an emergency, and his outlook could be similar for Monday's contest.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Nearing return to activities

Rizzo (illness) will go through a cardiac screening Monday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Manager Aaron Boone is hopeful that Rizzo will be able to hit and take grounders at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday if Monday's screening goes well. While the 32-year-old won't be activated right away, he appears to be trending toward a return. Rizzo has been sidelined since Aug. 8 after he tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Homers in loss

Vaughn started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees.

Vaughn slugged his 14th home run to put the White Sox on the board in the sixth inning. This was his seventh appearance and fifth start in right field, as manager Tony La Russa navigates an injury to Adam Engel (groin). Brian Goodwin started in right field Saturday against a right-hander before Vaughn's start against a lefty.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Knocks fifth homer

Voit went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the White Sox.

Voit singled and scored on Rougned Odor's homer in the second inning, and he hit his own two-run shot in the ninth to put the Yankees up 5-1. It was his fifth home run of the year and second in the last seven games since returning from the injured list. Voit is slashing just .234/.314/.380 through 153 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Promoted to Triple-A

Torkelson was promoted to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Torkelson went through a mild slump at Double-A Erie in late July and early August, but he bounced back across the last week and hit .423 with four home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and eight runs across his last six games. He slashed .263/.373/.560 with 14 homers, 36 RBI, 33 runs and a stolen base in 50 games with the Double-A club and will now be one step away from the majors.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Not starting Sunday

Diaz (thumb) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Diaz will sit for the second straight game after exiting Friday's contest with a sprained left thumb. The 30-year-old was able to take some swings Sunday and could be available off the bench in an emergency, but manager Kevin Cash will likely attempt to avoid utilizing him, if possible.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Sitting again Sunday

O'Hearn is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.

O'Hearn is 6-for-21 with a homer, a triple, seven RBI and two runs through nine games in August, and he'll sit for the second straight contest Sunday. Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter while Cam Gallagher starts behind the plate.
