  • LaMonte Wade 1B | SF

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Out against left-hander

Wade is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Nationals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Southpaw DJ Herz is on the hill for the Nationals, so the lefty-hitting Wade will give way to Mark Canha at first base. Wade has gone just 6-for-34 at the plate over his last 10 games.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | MIL

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Three-hit effort in win

Hoskins went 3-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Atlanta.

Hoskins extended his hitting streak to 12 games, and he's logged multiple hits in his last two contests. During the 12-game hitting streak, he's gone 15-for-46 (.326) with four home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. The first baseman isn't known to hit for much of an average, but his recent run of success has lifted his average from .213 to .229 for the year. He's added a .758 OPS, 19 homers, 57 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases across 89 contests this season.

  • Josh Bell 1B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Josh Bell: Homers twice in nightcap

Bell went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three total RBI in a 5-3 win over Cleveland in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Bell now has nine home runs in his last 12 games, including four in five contests since joining the D-Backs. Overall, the 31-year-old first baseman is slashing .241/.306/.420 this season across 469 plate appearances between Arizona and Miami. Bell should continue to see regular at-bats with Christian Walker (oblique) likely sidelined until late August.

  • Michael Busch 3B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Homers in win Wednesday

Busch went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Twins.

After going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Monday's game against his hometown team, Busch ended the series on a high note. The first baseman clobbered his 16th home run of the season and fourth in his last 10 games. If he can stay healthy, Busch seems primed to reach the 20-homer plateau for the first time in his young career in what's been a nice debut campaign with the Cubs.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Taking seat Wednesday amid slump

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Alec Burleson will step in at first base while Goldschmidt exits the starting lineup for the first time since July 13, when he hit the bench for the first game of a doubleheader. After his bat had begun to heat up coming out of the All-Star break, Goldschmidt has started slumping again; he's gone 0-for-7 with seven punchouts against three walks over his last five games.

  • Jake Bauers RF | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Heading to bench versus lefty

Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

The Brewers are facing off against a left-hander (Chris Sale) for the fourth time in six games, and the lefty-hitting Bauers has found himself on the bench for each of those contests. He still looks to have a hold on a strong-side platoon role while Christian Yelich (back) is on the shelf, but Bauers will cede his spot in the lineup to Gary Sanchez on Wednesday.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Absent versus lefty

Cronenworth is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Pittsburgh, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Southpaw Marco Gonzales is toeing the rubber for the Pirates, offering the Padres a chance to give the left-handed-hitting Cronenworth a day of rest. Donovan Solano will occupy first base in his stead.

  • Ty France 1B | CIN

Reds' Ty France: Homers in win

France went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-2 win over Miami.

France answered the Marlins' two-run fourth inning with a leadoff homer in the fifth. It was the second home run in as many games for France, who made a fifth consecutive start at first base. It appears he's settling in as the club's primary first baseman, regardless of which starter is on the mound. During his five-start run, the first three starts were against left-handers and the last two against righties.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Out for season

Flores (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Flores underwent a Tenex procedure on his right knee Tuesday and the Giants ruled the infielder out for the remainder of 2024 following the surgery. The 32-year-old's 12th MLB season comes to and end with Flores having contributed four homers, 19 runs and 26 RBI in 242 plate appearances across 71 games. Mark Canha is slated to platoon with LaMonte Wade at first base in the closing two months of the regular season.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SD

Padres' Luis Arraez: Idle against southpaw

Arraez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Arraez will avoid a matchup with southpaw Bailey Falter, giving way to Jake Cronenworth at first base and Donovan Solano at DH. Arraez has been held out of the lineup in three of the Padres' last six games against left-handed pitching.
