Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Injury labeled as contusion
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said after Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres that the right calf injury Soderstrom sustained earlier in the game was a contusion, Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America reports.
The team initially labeled Soderstrom's injury as right calf tightness shortly after he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, but Kotsay seemed to downplay the severity of the health concern afterward. Before exiting the game, Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The Athletics will conclude their series with San Diego on Wednesday with a day game after a night game, and it wouldn't be surprising if Soderstrom were held out of that contest, especially with a team off day looming Thursday.

Spencer Torkelson 1B | DET
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Pops homer Tuesday
Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.
Torkelson hit the first of three fourth-inning home runs against Carlos Carrasco to help give the Tigers some breathing room. Torkelson's been enjoying a resurgence early on. It's taken him 11 games to reach three home runs after it took him 44 games in 2024 to reach the same mark, and he's hitting .310/.408/.643 with a 1.051 OPS through 49 plate appearances so far this season.

Enrique Hernandez SS | LAD
Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Smacks fourth homer
Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to Washington.
Hernandez concluded the scoring in the contest with a solo shot to left field in the eighth inning. The utility man has taken on a prominent role in the Dodgers' lineup of late, as he's been starting at first base while Freddie Freeman has been on the injured list due to an ankle injury. Hernandez is batting a meager .111 on the season, but all four of his hits have left the park, and that has allowed him to rack up a healthy seven RBI over 39 plate appearances.

Casey Schmitt SS | SF
Giants' Casey Schmitt: Impressive performance in loss
Schmitt went 2-for-3 with a double during Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Reds and could be in the mix for more playing time moving forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The 26-year-old drew the start at first base before being moved to second in the eighth inning, following LaMonte Wade's entry into the game. Schmitt accounted for two of San Francisco's four hits in the low-scoring affair, including his first double of the season, which he lined into left field during the second frame. The utility infielder has the defensive ability to compete for more playing time, and he is now slashing .222/.300/.333 with a double across 10 plate appearances.

Tyler Soderstrom C | ATH
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Removed with calf tightness
Soderstrom was removed from Tuesday's game against the Padres due to right calf tightness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. His removal may have been precautionary since the Athletics were up 10-4 by that point in the inning, but it's still something the team might keep an eye on over the next couple of days.

Mets' Pete Alonso: Drives in four runs Tuesday

Alonso has gone 12-for-30 with four walks, five doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI over his last eight outings.

Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Sitting Tuesday
Mountcastle isn't in the lineup Tuesday against Arizona.
Mountcastle will get a chance to catch his breath Tuesday after going 6-for-12 with two RBI and three runs scored across his last three games. Ryan O'Hearn will fill in as the Orioles' first baseman while Adley Rutschman serves as the DH, giving Gary Sanchez a start behind the plate.

Michael Busch 3B | CHC
Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting versus lefty
Busch is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
Southpaw Patrick Corbin will take the mound Tuesday for Texas, so Busch will head to the bench after going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's series opener. Justin Turner will start at first base and bat cleanup in his place.
