Mariners' Ty France: On base thrice in return

France (heel), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, started at first base in Tuesday's win over the Guardians and went 0-for-2 with three walks and a run.

While there was no big hit to commemorate the veteran's return from a minimum-length stay on the IL, France was a thorn in the side of Guardians pitching all night with his constant trips on the basepaths. Now apparently back to full health, France heads into the home stretch of June carrying an outstanding .295/.456/.523 slash line with six extra-base hits and 10 RBI in his last 15 games (57 plate appearances).

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Day off Wednesday

Cronenworth is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.

Cronenworth will get his first day off in more than a month as the Padres and Phillies conclude their series with a day game after a night game. Tyler Wade will fill in at second base while Cronenworth gets some rest.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Racks up three hits

Schanuel went 3-for-4 with a double, one walk and one RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers.

Schanuel is starting to get in a groove at the plate, going 11-for-24 (.458) over his last seven games. That's a big improvement after he opened June 2-for-25 across seven contests. The first baseman is at a .233/.313/.362 slash line with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 24 runs scored, one stolen base and six doubles through 65 games overall.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: On fire in June

Vaughn went 1-for-4 with two RBI on Tuesday against the Astros.

Vaughn grounded into a pair of fielder's choice outs to tally his two RBI. Though it wasn't a particularly notable performance, he now has five home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored across 14 games in June while also hitting .356.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Clubs fourth homer

Montero went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 11-9 loss to the Dodgers.

Montero has an extra-base hit and at least one RBI in each of his last three games. He began Tuesday's game on the bench but entered early after Charlie Blackmon (hamstring) exited the contest. Montero is at a middling .209/.274/.313 slash line with four homers, 27 RBI, 22 runs scored and 10 doubles over 62 contests this season, though he's hit just .167 (8-for-48) in June. If Blackmon misses additional time, that may allow Montero to be in the lineup more often, as his playing time has started to slip.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Sidelined for eight weeks

The Yankees placed Rizzo on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right forearm fracture.

Per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, Rizzo will be shut down from all activities for up to five weeks, and it will be eight weeks until he's ready to play in games. Ben Rice is up to take his roster spot and is starting at first base Tuesday against the Orioles in his major-league debut. The Yankees also figure to use DJ LeMahieu at first base and Oswaldo Cabrera at third base some days while Rizzo is shelved.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Added to roster, batting sixth

The Yankees selected Rice's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Rice earned a call-up after slashing .275/.393/.532 with 15 home runs, nine stolen bases and a 56:40 K:BB over 268 plate appearances between Double-A Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's a catcher and a first baseman but is in line to be used mostly in the latter capacity while Anthony Rizzo (arm) is sidelined. Rice will start at first base and bat sixth in his major-league debut Tuesday versus the Orioles.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

    Twins' Carlos Santana: Idle Tuesday

Santana is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

Santana will get the day off Tuesday after making five consecutive starts at first base. Jose Miranda will fill in for Santana at first and bat sixth.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Shut down for multiple weeks

Rizzo (arm) said Tuesday that he will be shut down from all baseball activities for 4-5 weeks, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

When it was revealed Monday that Rizzo is dealing with a fracture to the radial neck of his right arm, the initial timetable of up to six weeks was provided. However, this latest report suggests a six-week absence could be a worst-case scenario. For his part, Rizzo said Tuesday he expects to play again this season. Ben Rice will be called up to take his spot on the Yankees' active roster.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Back from injured list

The Mariners activated France (heel) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

France missed the minimum 10 days with a right heel fracture and will skip a rehab assignment, going right back onto the Mariners' 26-man active roster. Tyler Locklear has been filling in at first base for France and remains on the roster, but France should go back to seeing the bulk of the starts at first base for Seattle.
