  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Goes deep Saturday

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

Goldschmidt had a brief slump earlier in June, but he's gone 10-for-29 (.345) with two homers and six RBI over his last seven games. The first baseman has also struck out 10 times in that span, which is a bit unusual for a fairly patient hitter. On the season, he's at a .287/.381/.493 slash line with 12 homers, 33 RBI, 45 runs scored, 19 doubles and seven stolen bases over 69 contests. Goldschmidt also has a 22.3 percent strikeout rate and 12.7 percent walk rate, roughly in line with his career norms as he pieces together another strong campaign.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Royals' Matt Beaty: Brought up from Triple-A

Kansas City selected Beaty's contract from Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.

Beaty was signed to a minor-league contract by the Royals on Monday after he elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment from the Giants in June. The veteran infielder provides some bench help for Kansas City, and he takes the roster spot of Michael Massey after Massey was placed on the injured list with a hand laceration.

  • Nick Pratto 1B | TEX

Royals' Nick Pratto: Heads to bench Sunday

Pratto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Pratto started the past 18 games and will receive a day off after he posted a .781 OPS during that stretch. He should continue to operate as Kansas City's primary first baseman with Vinnie Pasquantino (shoulder) out for the year, though Matt Duffy will start at the position Sunday.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Shifts to 60-day IL

Kansas City transferred Pasquantino (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Sunday.

Pasquantino will miss the rest of the 2023 season after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery, so this is just a procedural move that clears room on the 40-man roster. The Royals used that created room to select the contract of Matt Beaty from Triple-A Omaha.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Activated off injured list Sunday

Alonso (wrist) was reinstated off the 10-day injured list by the Mets on Sunday.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as there were no indications that Alonso was going to be activated this soon. The slugger ended up missing just the minimum 10 days after being placed on the injured list retroactive to June 8 with a bone bruise and sprain in his left wrist. He returns to an .872 OPS with 22 homers and 49 RBI over his first 62 games of the season. Mark Vientos was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse in the corresponding transaction to make room for Alonso on the active roster.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Nationals' Dominic Smith: Gets rare day off

Smith is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest versus Miami.

Smith has played in 66 of Washington's 69 games this year, but he'll begin Sunday's finale against the Marlins on the bench. Michael Chavis is the starting first baseman for the Nats and will hit seventh in Smith's absence.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: On bench for Game 1

Casas is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Yankees, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Casas was scheduled to sit Saturday before the contest was postponed due to weather, and he'll stick on the bench for the makeup game Sunday afternoon. Justin Turner will man first base while Masataka Yoshida serves as the designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Out of lineup Sunday

Montero is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game versus Atlanta.

Montero has seen the majority of the reps at first base over the past week, but he's also failed to pick up a hit since June 9 and is slashing .069/.100/.138 over 29 at-bats in the month of June. Mike Moustakas will play first base and hit seventh with Montero out of the lineup.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Taking over first base duties

Montero entered Saturday's game against Atlanta as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning and did not get a plate appearance.

Montero got a rare day off, as he entered Saturday's action having started six of Colorado's last seven games at first base. He's gone hitless in that span across 20 at-bats while striking out at a 42.9 percent clip, so it's unclear how long the team may be willing to stick with him in favor of Mike Moustakas.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Belts grand slam Saturday

Olson went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in a 10-2 win against Colorado on Saturday.

Olson gave Atlanta all the offense it would need in the first inning, crushing a 424-foot grand slam to left-center field. It was his third homer in his past seven contests following a 10-game stretch without a long ball in late May and early June. Olson is up to 20 home runs on the season, tied for third-most in the majors.
