Mariners' Kevin Padlo: Moves up to big leagues

The Mariners recalled Padlo from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

With Seattle needing to reduce its pitching staff to 13 men ahead of Monday's MLB-imposed deadline, Padlo will join the big club as a replacement for reliever Roenis Elias, who was designated for assignment. Padlo will give Seattle a righty-hitting option off the bench, but he may not even receive a look as a short-side platoon player while he's up with the big club.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Back in big leagues

Smith was recalled by the Mets on Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Smith has hit a respectable .266/.347/.438 in 15 games since being demoted to Triple-A Syracuse at the end of May, though his return may be less about his own numbers and more about the fact that teams are limited to 13 pitchers for the rest of the season. The Mets needed to call up an extra bat, and Smith is their best option, but if he's to carve out a meaningful role the rest of the way he'll have to hit far better than the .235/.301/.346 line he's managed since the start of last season.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Drives in two Sunday

Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

That's consecutive two-hit games for Torkelson, who may finally be starting to break out. The rookie is still batting just .190 with a 26.5 percent strikeout rate, so it will take a little while for his overall stat line to look a little better. With the Tigers sitting at 26-40, Torkelson along with fellow top rookie Riley Greene should see plenty of playing time in a rebuilding campaign. Both players have the talent to post nice fantasy numbers the rest of the way, though growing pains are likely.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: RBI single in win

Cron went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored in Sunday's win over San Diego.

Cron crossed the plate twice, thanks to an Elias Diaz single in the second inning and a Randal Grichuk homer in the fifth. Cron knocked in Yonathan Daza in the fifth inning for an RBI of his own. The three-hit outing gave the first baseman at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 games, four of which were multi-hit games. Cron's season slash line sits at .298/.344/.561.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Padres' Luke Voit: Solo shot in loss

Voit went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's loss against the Rockies.

Voit took Antonio Senzatela deep in the second inning to give the Padres a short-lived lead. He later came around to score on an Austin Nola homer in the eighth. Voit had a slow start to the year, but he has picked things up in June with eight multi-hit affairs in 19 games this month. The first baseman is on a three-game hitting streak and has raised his season batting average to .245.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Perfect at the plate

Olson went 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Cubs.

Olson picked up a run on a Travis d'Arnaud homer in the first inning, then sent Austin Riley home on a double in the fifth. Olson had gone hitless in his last two games, but he was perfect at the plate Sunday. The first baseman has a June batting average of .217, but the 3-for-3 outing helped raise his season batting average to .251.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Slated to rejoin major-league club

Montero is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Montero had a brief stint with the major-league club earlier in June and went 2-for-13 with five strikeouts. He's been more successful in Albuquerque, slashing .327/.395/.563 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI, 35 runs and three stolen bases this season. While the 23-year-old will get to spend more time with the Rockies, it's possible that he'll have another brief stint in the majors since Kris Bryant (back) hopes to return to action next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Pops sixth homer

Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Guardians.

Freeman's power has largely been absent this season, as this was his sixth homer of the year, though it was his second in his last seven games. The first baseman has made up for the lack of long balls partially with 22 doubles in 65 contests after hitting 25 two-baggers in 159 games last year. Overall, he's slashing a strong .291/.375/.457 with 35 RBI, 41 runs scored and six stolen bases while remaining a fixture in the Dodgers' strong lineup.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Snaps skid with two homers

Walker went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Twins.

Walker entered Sunday on an 0-for-15 skid. He snapped that slump in his first at-bat with a 404-foot homer. He added a 413-foot blast in the fourth inning, and it was the first baseman who accounted for both runs on Twins starter Chris Archer's line. Through 66 contests, Walker has 18 homers, 35 RBI, 30 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple with a .201/.297/.483 slash line.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Not close to game action

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that Casas is receiving regular treatment for his sprained right ankle, but the 22-year-old is not yet close to returning to the lineup at Triple-A Worcester, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Casas is conducting his rehab at the Red Sox's spring training facility in Fort Myers, Fla. and could require a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before he makes his return to the Triple-A lineup. Though a promotion to the big leagues could happen at some point in 2022, Casas' lingering ankle injury makes it unlikely that he'll be ready to make his MLB debut before the All-Star break.
