Twins' Willi Castro: Not in Friday's lineup

Castro is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers.

It's a rare day off for Castro, who had started every game so far this month. Kyle Farmer and Edouard Julien will form the double-play combination for the Twins.

Tigers' Colt Keith: Experiencing hamstring soreness

Keith was deemed day-to-day Friday with left hamstring soreness stemming from a cramp he felt Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

He was held out of the Tigers lineup Friday and was described as "banged up" by manager A.J. Hinch, but the team doesn't seem worried that Keith is dealing with anything serious. Zach McKinstry is starting at second base Friday.

  • Nick Sogard SS | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Back in lineup Friday

Sogard (calf) will start at second base and bat seventh in Friday's game in Baltimore.

Sogard exited Wednesday's game versus the Rangers after fouling a ball off his calf and didn't play in the series opener against the Orioles on Thursday. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go in this one.

    Tigers' Colt Keith: Resting Friday

Keith is "banged up a little bit" according to manager A.J. Hinch and is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

After starting seven consecutive games, Keith will get the night off to rest and recover. This late in the season, it's not abnormal for players to be dealing with minor aches and pains, as seems to be the case with Keith. Zach McKinstry will bat seventh and play second base for Friday's series opener.

  • Jace Jung 2B | DET

Tigers' Jace Jung: Officially added to roster

The Tigers selected Jung's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

The first-round pick is set to make his major-league debut after hitting .257/.377/.454 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI over 414 plate appearances this season with Toledo. A left-handed batter, Jung will be the Tigers' primary third baseman versus righties, but it's unclear whether the team also plans to play him regularly against southpaws.

  • Luis Guillorme 2B | ARI

Angels' Luis Guillorme: Exits 40-man roster

The Angels designated Guillorme for assignment Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Guillorme slashed .231/.302/.298 with just three RBI in 50 games for the Angels. The veteran utility player will likely clear waivers given his $1.1 million salary, but he should be able to eventually latch on with another club looking for a versatile infielder.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | MIN

Twins' Edouard Julien: Back with big club

The Twins recalled Julien from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Julien's presence as a second-base option could allow Willi Castro to play some in center field while Byron Buxton (hip) is sidelined. The 25-year-old Julien has slashed .204/.311/.354 with seven home runs and six stolen bases over 63 contests at the major-league level this season.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Racks up three hits Wednesday

Frazier went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Twins.

Frazier has gone 6-for-18 (.333) over eight games in August. He continues to fill a part-time role between second base and right field against right-handed pitchers. The veteran lifted his average back above the Mendoza Line at .205 with a .577 OPS, three home runs, 17 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases through 235 plate appearances this season.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | CLE

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Produces nice stat line Wednesday

Gimenez went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base in a 6-1 win against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Gimenez notched three of Cleveland's seven hits and drove in half of the team's runs in the productive performance. The trio of RBI pushed his season total to 50, while the theft moved him up to 20 on the campaign. Gimenez has now driven in at least 50 runs and stolen at least 20 bags in three straight seasons.

  • Nick Sogard SS | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Exits early Wednesday

Sogard was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to calf tightness, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Sogard fouled a ball off his leg during his at-bat in the eighth inning and felt his calf tighten up on him while in the field during the ninth frame. It's unclear if he'll be available for Thursday's series opener against Baltimore.
