Rangers' Marcus Semien: Three doubles, three runs in win

Semien went 3-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Athletics.

Semien flexed some muscle against one of his former teams, producing multiple doubles in one game for the first time this year. He came around to score each time he got aboard, and each of his two-baggers led off an inning. The second baseman has posted consecutive three-hit games, raising his slash line to .248/.305/.428 with 22 home runs, 72 RBI, 89 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and 28 doubles through 141 games.

  • Mark Mathias 2B | CIN

Rangers' Mark Mathias: Homers twice, including walkoff

Mathias went 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and three total runs scored in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Athletics.

Mathias hasn't seen a large share of playing time in September, as Tuesday marked just his fifth start in 13 games this month. He made the most of his chance, fueling the Rangers' comeback win in a big way. The 28-year-old hit an RBI double in the fifth inning, a two-run blast in the seventh and a walkoff solo shot in the ninth to help erase a five-run deficit. He's produced five multi-hit efforts since joining the Rangers at the trade deadline. Mathias is slashing .298/.369/.614 with five homers, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases through 65 plate appearances between Texas and Milwaukee this year.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Twins' Luis Arraez: Sets table well in win

Arraez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Royals.

Arraez got aboard safely in his first three plate appearances, and he came around to score in the third and fifth innings. He's hit safely in six straight games, going 11-for-28 (.393) with three multi-hit efforts and five doubles in that span. The 25-year-old's enjoying a resurgence after a slight slump in late August. For the year, he has a .319/.379/.432 slash line with eight home runs, 46 RBI, 78 runs scored, four stolen bases and 29 doubles in 126 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Sitting Game 2

Espinal is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.

Espinal went 0-for-2 in Game 1 before being lifted for a pinch hitter during the seventh inning, and he'll remain on the bench for the nightcap. Cavan Biggio will start at the keystone in Game 2.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Heading to IL

Lowe was placed on the 10-day injured list with lower-back discomfort ahead of Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. The transaction is retroactive to Sept. 12.

Lowe was held out of the lineup Monday and for Game 1 of Tuesday's twin bill, and he'll now be unavailable for at least another week. The 28-year-old will be eligible to return from the IL on Sept. 22, though it's unclear if he's expected to be game ready by that point. Jonathan Aranda could be the primary replacement at second base, though Isaac Paredes and Taylor Walls will also be in the mix.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Out against lefty

Kemp is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Rangers.

Kemp heads to the bench with southpaw Cole Ragans on the hill for Texas. Jonah Bride will start at the keystone and hit sixth.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Sitting out Tuesday

Massey is not in the Royals' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Massey will get a breather after going 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk in Sunday's win over Detroit. Nicky Lopez will cover for Massey at second base while Nate Eaton picks up a start at third, batting sixth.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Gimenez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Angels.

Gimenez is hitting .250 with one home run and three steals in 11 games this month. Tyler Freeman will start at the keystone and hit seventh.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Bothered by sore back

Lowe was left out of the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays due to a sore back, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It was a bit puzzling that Lowe was not in the lineup for Game 1, but the injury provides a reason for his absence. Manager Kevin Cash is hoping that Lowe will be available off the bench in the opener and/or be ready to return to action in Game 2.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Swipes another bag

Altuve went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base Monday against the Tigers.

Altuve tallied singles in the first and ninth innings and came around to score on both occasions. He was aggressive on the basepaths early in the game, stealing his second base in as many games and 17th of the season. That matches his highest total since the 2018 campaign, and Altuve has a chance to swipe 20 bags for the first time since 2017.
