Polanco is up to 31 homers this year, seven of which have come in 16 games this month. Athletics' Elvis Andrus: Dealing with lower leg issue

Andrus was not in Friday's lineup against the Angels after being hit by a pitch in foot/shin area Thursday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Manager Bob Melvin described Andrus as "hobbling around a little bit." That said, the issue doesn't sound like a serious injury, though it remains unclear whether the shortstop will require a stint on the injured list. His absence set off a series of moves in the Athletics' lineup, as Josh Harrison took over at short, Tony Kemp shifted to second base and Chad Pinder entered the lineup as the right fielder.

He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Monday and wound up going 2-for-9 with a run scored across three games. He's not starting in his return to the major-league roster Friday against the White Sox, but he figures to see time all around the diamond during the final weeks of the season. Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and another run scored in Thursday's 9-3 win over the White Sox.

Andrus' .605 OPS on the season remains his worst mark for any campaign in which he's logged at least 200 plate appearances, but the veteran infielder is at least heating up while the Athletics look to claw their way back into the wild-card race. Since the calendar flipped to September, Andrus is hitting .350 while scoring seven times and driving in six in 12 games. He'll remain in the lineup for Thursday's series finale, starting at shortstop and batting eighth.
