  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Knocks in only run

Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Sunday.

Lowe's 400-foot shot to center field in the sixth inning was the only run of the afternoon for the light-hitting Rays, who have struggled to manufacture offense on the road thus far. Lowe has been an exception recently, however, as he went deep in two of the three weekend games at Camden Yards and drove in one run in each of the three contests.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Astros' Jack Mayfield: Makes first start

Mayfield started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 in Sunday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Angels.

Mayfield made his first start of the season while Carlos Correa got the day off. Mayfield is filling in as the team's utility infielder with Aledmys Diaz (groin) on the injured list, but he's rarely used. Other than Sunday's start, Mayfield has made one appearance as a pinch runner and scored a run.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Sitting with injury Sunday

Lopez (shin) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Lopez exited early in Saturday's loss to the White Sox with a shin contusion, and while the injury is believed to be minor, manager Mike Matheny evidently thought that the youngster could benefit from a day of rest. Whit Merrifield will cover second base in place of Lopez in the series finale.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Belts third homer

Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and was caught stealing during Saturday's 11-5 loss to the White Sox.

The 31-year-old was in the midst of a mini-slump as he was 0-for-9 over the past two games, but he got things going again Saturday. Merrifield is 12-for-37 with three home runs, three doubles, eight runs, nine RBI and one stolen base through nine games in 2020.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Makes precautionary exit

Lopez was removed from Saturday's game against the White Sox with a shin contusion, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury when he was slid into while turning a double play, but it doesn't appear to be too serious. Lopez went 0-for-2 before leaving the contest and is day-to-day.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Out of Saturday's lineup

Kemp is not in the lineup for Saturday's game at Seattle.

Kemp is 0-for-7 with two runs, a stolen base and two walks through nine plate appearances, and he'll hit the bench with southpaw Yusei Kikuchi on the mound for the Mariners. Chad Pinder will receive the start at second base for the A's.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sits against southpaw

Lowe is not in the lineup against lefty Wade LeBlanc and the Orioles on Saturday.

The Rays have now faced three lefties this season, and Lowe has started against just one of them. Joey Wendle, who also bats left-handed, will start at second base in his absence.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Successful on bases Friday

Kemp went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.

The speedster drew the start at second base and operated out of the bottom of the order, and his wheels helped provide some of the only highlights of the night for the Athletics. Kemp has started three games thus far at the keystone and is still in search of his first hit, but he has now drawn a pair of free passes and scored two runs overall.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Launches first homer

Chavis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Yankees.

Chavis started at first base in place of Mitch Moreland against a left-hander, the fifth southpaw the Red Sox have faced in eight games. After going hitless in the first three starts, Chavis is 3-for-7 in his last two appearances.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Contributes amid slump

Altuve went 0-for-4 with a walk and two RBI and was caught stealing in Friday's 9-6 win over the Angels.

Altuve, who is hitless in his last 14 at-bats, managed a couple of productive outs Friday. After seven games, one of MLB's best hitters has a .620 OPS.
