  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

    Nationals' Luis Garcia: Idle Friday

Garcia is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

The lefty-hitting Garcia will dodge a matchup with southpaw Patrick Corbin. In his stead, Nasim Nunez will bat ninth and play second base.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Struggling in small sample

Gonzales went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday against the Astros.

Gonzalez has started two of three games since being activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. He hit sixth against a right-handed starter Tuesday but slotted into the cleanup spot with southpaw Framber Valdez on the mound Thursday. Despite the ugly effort, Gonzales should get a long look as the starting second baseman for the Pirates after fracturing his ankle Opening Day and missing more than two months.

  • Tim Tawa 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Fills in at first base

Tawa went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's 11-10 win over Atlanta.

Tawa entered as a pinch hitter for first baseman Pavin Smith and remained in the game to play the same position. It was the second time this season Tawa has played first base. Arizona would normally use Josh Naylor to fill in at first base, but he had started the game as the DH and eventually left with a shoulder injury. If Naylor's injury forces him to miss time, Smith would be the likely starter at first base against righties with Tawa, Lourdes Gurriel and Ildemaro Vargas as potential platoon partners.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Stays hot at plate

Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI single during Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Cubs.

Garcia provided the Nationals' lone run Thursday, plating Daylen Lile in the bottom of the ninth inning to avoid a shutout. The performance also marked Garcia's fourth multi-hit game in his last six appearances, and he's 12-for-27 (.444) with four doubles, five runs scored and seven RBI during that stretch. On the year, Garcia is slashing .263/.305/.412 with five homers and seven steals in 54 games.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Slump deepens in blowout loss

Stott went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 9-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

It's becoming a deep slump for Stott, who struck out multiple times Thursday for the first time since May 10. Across his last 29 games (112 at-bats), the speedy middle infielder is hitting just .196 with two home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. The lefty-hitting Stott's playing time doesn't appear to be in any kind of immediate danger -- backup second baseman Edmundo Sosa has a .562 OPS versus righties in 2025 -- but it wouldn't be surprising if the Phillies considered moving him down the lineup until he can get back on track.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Stays hot in win

Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's 11-10 win over Atlanta.

Marte launched a solo homer in the eighth inning, and then added an RBI and scored during Arizona's seven-run comeback in the ninth. The 31-year-old went deep three times in the series against Atlanta and has now hit safely in 14 of his past 15 games. On the season, he's slashing .299/.422/.606 with 11 home runs, 19 RBI, 30 runs and two stolen bases across 154 plate appearances.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Rejoins starting nine

Edman (ankle) will start at second base and bat sixth during Thursday's game against the Mets, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed Wednesday that Edman tweaked his ankle a few days ago, but the 30-year-old now seems to be fully recovered. Edman has been on a bit of a hot streak at the plate recently, going 8-for-27 with a home run, three RBI and seven runs scored across his last seven games.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Delivers big run

Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Atlanta.

Marte drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning to make is a 2-0 game, and that run was needed when Justin Martinez walked three and hit a batter in the bottom of the frame to let in a run. Marte is up to 17 RBI for the season with 16 of them coming in the last 22 games.

  • Tim Tawa 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Doubles, scores in win

Tawa went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Atlanta.

Tawa doubled in the ninth inning and scored Arizona's second run on a Ketel Marte single. It was an important run the team needed, as closer Justin Martinez allowed a run in the bottom of the frame. Since Marte returned from the injured list in early May, forcing Tawa into a part-time role as a fill-in outfielder against left-handers, the rookie has handled the transition well. He's batting .271 (13-for-48) with four extra-base hits, four RBI, four steals and five runs over 19 games in the part-time role.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Battling ankle injury

Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Edman tweaked his ankle a few days ago, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Edman hasn't started a game since Monday but still managed to play during Tuesday's contest, going 0-for-2 and scoring a run. Roberts said the 30-year-old is currently considered day-to-day, though Esteury Ruiz is on the team's taxi squad in case a move to the IL becomes necessary.
