  • Nationals' Franklin Barreto: Joins Washington in MiLB deal

Barreto agreed to a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Barreto joined the Astros on a minors deal for 2022 and had a .162/.259/.274 slash line in 73 games at the Triple-A level before he was released in August. The 26-year-old will need a significant turnaround to have a chance of seeing the majors in 2023.

  • Rylan Bannon 2B | NYM

Cubs' Rylan Bannon: Claimed by Cubs

The Cubs claimed Bannon off waivers from Atlanta on Friday.

Bannon spent the vast majority of last season in Triple-A, slashing .249/.367/.421 and collecting 77 RBI through 411 plate appearances. Infield depth was an issue for the Cubs last season, so it's possible that Bannon makes a few appearances for Chicago in 2023, but he will more than likely serve primarily as a minor-league piece.

  • Taylor Motter 2B | STL

Cardinals' Taylor Motter: Signed by Cardinals

The Cardinals signed Motter to a minor-league contract Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Motter spent about half of the 2022 campaign with the Reds organization, going 1-for-6 in two games on the major-league roster. The 33-year-old will now get a shot to prove himself with the Cardinals in 2023.

  • Brett Wisely 2B | ATL

Giants' Brett Wisely: Sent to San Francisco

Wisely was acquired by the Giants from the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Tristan Peters. The Giants then added Wisely to the 40-man roster.

Wisely needed to be added to the 40-man roster in order to be protected from the Rule 5 draft, so Tampa Bay instead opted to flip him for Peters. Wisely appeared in five games at the Triple-A level late in the season, but he spent most of 2022 at Double-A and had a .271/.368/.450 slash line with 14 home runs and 31 stolen bases in 112 contests.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Sent to Marlins

Edwards and JT Chargois were acquired by the Marlins from the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Marcus Johnson and Santiago Suarez.

Edwards was one of Tampa Bay's top prospects but will be flipped in order to acquire a couple minor-league pitchers. He spent 2022 at the Triple-A level and had a .246/.328/.350 slash line with five home runs, 33 RBI and seven stolen bases in 93 games, so a change of scenery certainly won't hurt.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Turang was added to the Brewers' 40-man roster Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

While Turang continues to toe the line between future starting second baseman or utility player, he was a lock to get added to Milwaukee's 40-man roster as protection from the Rule 5 draft. Turang can play all three up-the-middle spots and hit .286/.360/.412 with 13 home runs and 34 steals in 131 games at Triple-A. He turns 23 this month and should serve as Kolten Wong insurance in 2023.

  • Jake Alu LF | WAS

Nationals' Jake Alu: Added to 40-man roster

Alu was added to the Nationals' 40-man roster Tuesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Alu is a nice deep-league sleeper, as he had statistical success at Triple-A and has a pretty clear path to playing time in the majors. Carter Kieboom and Ildemaro Vargas are the top options at third base for the Nationals, so Alu could get a look at the hot corner at some point in 2023. The 25-year-old lefty hitter slashed .323/.372/.553 with 11 home runs, six steals and an 18.2 percent strikeout rate in 59 games at Triple-A.

  • Isan Diaz 2B | DET

Giants' Isan Diaz: Contract selected by Giants

Diaz's contract was selected by the Giants on Wednesday.

Diaz was traded from the Marlins to the Giants in late April, and he slashed .275/.377/.574 with 23 home runs, 61 RBI, 60 runs and seven stolen bases over 83 games at Triple-A Sacramento last year. He'll likely be in the mix for a big-league roster spot during spring training in 2023.

  • Jose Fermin 2B | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Dealt to St. Louis

The Cardinals acquired Fermin from the Guardians on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

St. Louis immediately added Fermin to its 40-man roster, something the Guardians weren't likely to do this offseason. Since the 23-year-old would have been a candidate to get selected in the Rule 5 draft, the Guardians opted to deal him to St. Louis so as not to lose him for nothing. Fermin slashed .215/.336/.322 with six home runs and nine stolen bases across 330 plate appearances at Triple-A Columbus in 2022, and he'll likely stick around in the International League and join the Cardinals' top affiliate in Memphis to open the 2023 campaign.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Out against lefty

Stott will sit for Game 6 of the World Series on Saturday.

Stott will sit against lefty Framber Valdez, just as he did in Game 2. Edmundo Sosa will get the start at shortstop, batting ninth.
