Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Battling ankle sprain
Hoerner was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain Wednesday after X-rays came back negative, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Manager David Ross said Hoerner may require a couple days off but isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list. The 24-year-old exited Wednesday's contest with the injury and will have Thursday's scheduled off day to aid in his recovery before Friday's series opener in Arizona.

Brendan Rodgers 2B | BOS
Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Nursing hand issue
Rodgers was held out of the lineup the past two days with a hand injury, though he's expected to play Friday versus the Royals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Rodgers last saw the field Monday against the Giants and went 1-for-4 with a run scored, and it's unclear when exactly he picked up the injury. Regardless, it's not believed to be a serious issue, and he should retake the field following Thursday's scheduled off day.

Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL
Giants' Thairo Estrada: Two hits and steal in win
Estrada went 2-for-5 with two runs and stolen base in the win over the Rockies on Wednesday.
Estrada ripped a pair of singles in this one, coming around to score both times while also adding a stolen base. The swipe was his fifth of the season and second in the last three games. Estrada has now notched multiple hits in three of his last six games, raising his batting average from .228 to .252 in the process. With Tommy La Stella (Achilles) expected to return soon, the 26-year-old will likely operate in some form of a timeshare with him at second base.

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Managing right ankle soreness
Hoerner exited Wednesday's game against the Padres due to right ankle soreness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The 24-year-old initially remained in Wednesday's game after colliding with an umpire, but he was removed in the bottom of the second inning and will be further examined. If Hoerner is forced to miss additional time, Ildemaro Vargas should see an uptick in playing time.

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Exits Wednesday's matchup
Hoerner was removed from Wednesday's game against the Padres in the bottom of the second inning due to an apparent injury, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Hoerner collided with an umpire in the bottom of the first inning and was initially able to remain in the game. However, he struck out in the top of the second and was replaced at shortstop by Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the inning. The nature and severity of Hoerner's injury aren't yet clear, but he'll have a day to rest before Friday's series opener in Arizona.

Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI
Athletics' Elvis Andrus: Returns to action
Andrus (shin) is starting Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Andrus sat out the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Detroit with a knot in his shin after he was involved in an outfield collision during the matinee. However, he'll start at shortstop and bat eighth a day later.

Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA
Angels' Jack Mayfield: Makes third straight start
Mayfield will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
With Taylor Ward (hamstring) once again on the bench, Mayfield will pick up his third start in a row. The Angels are hopeful that Ward will be back in action after Thursday's off day, so Mayfield's run of regular playing time could soon come to an end.

Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT
Rays' Brandon Lowe: On bench Wednesday
Lowe isn't starting Wednesday against the Angels, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Lowe started in the last five games and went 4-for-17 with two homers, four doubles, four runs, two RBI and four walks. Vidal Brujan will start at the keystone and bat seventh in Wednesday's series finale.

Mauricio Dubon SS | ATL
Giants' Mauricio Dubon: Back on bench after four starts
Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Dubon picked up starts at four different positions (shortstop, second base, third base and center field) over the past four games and was the Giants' top hitter during that stretch, going 7-for-16 with a walk, two home runs, seven runs and five RBI. Though he's finally producing after slashing .138/.133/.172 in his 15 games prior to the offensive eruption, it's likely too late for Dubon to make a serious run at an everyday role. The Giants welcomed back Evan Longoria (finger) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and should also have Wilmer Flores (back) available within the next few days. Expect Dubon to serve as a utility man moving forward, with his opportunities likely to dry up even more once his bat cools down.

Brendan Rodgers 2B | BOS
Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Riding pine Wednesday
Rodgers isn't starting Wednesday against the Giants, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.
Rodgers started in the first eight games in May, and he hit .313 with a homer, two doubles, eight RBI and six runs during that time. However, he'll be out of the lineup for a second straight game while Garrett Hampson starts at the keystone and bats eighth.
