  • Jack Winkler SS | HOU

Marlins' Jack Winkler: Scrubbed from 40-man roster

The Marlins designated Winkler for assignment Monday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Joey Wiemer, who was claimed off waivers. Winkler has gone 2-for-12 at the plate during a couple brief stints at the big-league level this season and stands a good chance of clearing waivers and remaining in the organization.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: Drawing fourth consecutive start

Julien will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Tigers.

Julien has started at the keystone in all four games for the Twins since he was called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday in the aftermath of the trade deadline. Though Julien should have a pathway to an everyday lineup spot the rest of the season if he can produce at the plate, he's mustered just one hit and one walk while striking out five times in nine at-bats through his first three contests following his promotion. Luke Keaschall (forearm) could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list by the end of the week and may push Julien for playing time at the keystone if the latter player isn't able to get going at the dish.

  • JJ Wetherholt 2B | STL

Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt: Stays hot at Triple-A

Making his first professional start at third base, Wetherholt went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Sunday's game with Triple-A Memphis.

Wetherholt has been fantastic since his promotion to Memphis in early July, slashing .344/.425/.754 with six home runs, two stolen bases and an 8:9 K:BB over 73 plate appearances covering 16 games. The top prospect is sporting a .310/.425/.528 batting line with 13 long balls and 16 steals this season between Double-A Springfield and Memphis. The timing of Wetherholt's first pro start at the hot corner is interesting, given that Nolan Arenado (shoulder) landed on the 10-day injured list this past Friday and it's unclear when he might return. Wetherholt is pushing for a major-league debut during his first full pro season.

  • Nick Gonzales 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Benefits from Coors Field

Gonzales went 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI on Sunday against the Rockies.

Gonzales took advantage of a weekend series at Coors Field, with Sunday marking his second four-hit performance in the three-game set. He had a successful road trip in general, hitting .414 with four runs scored across six games, albeit with only two extra-base hits.

  • Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Goes deep in loss

Chisholm went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to Miami.

Chisholm knocked a two-run shot in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough in the 7-3 loss. He entered Sunday in a 3-for-25 (.120) skid since his last multi-hit performance July 26. Chisholm also snapped a 10-game homerless drought Sunday. He's now slashing .246/.338/.478 with 30 extra-base hits and 51 RBI through 81 appearances.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Pops sixth homer

Schmitt went 2-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and an additional run scored in Sunday's 12-4 win against the Mets.

Schmitt plated his team's last three runs with a 369-foot long ball off reliever Ryne Stanek in the ninth inning. The San Francisco infielder has been heating up over his last 10 games, tallying a hit in nine of the contests and batting .275 (11-for-40) with two homers, three doubles, five RBI and four runs scored. Across 185 total plate appearances, Schmitt is now slashing .253/.326/.410 with 21 RBI and 18 runs scored.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Pops homer Sunday

Cronenworth went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Cardinals.

Cronenworth opened the scoring when he took Andre Pallante deep in the fourth inning. This was Cronenworth's first home runsince July 5 versus the Rangers. Over the 23 games between long balls, he hit a mere .227 with a .623 OPS. The infielder has a .235/.344/.388 slash line with nine homers, 34 RBI, 38 runs scored and two stolen bases across 87 contests this season. The Padres were busy at the trade deadline but didn't acquire a middle infielder, so Cronenworth is likely to maintain a starting role at second base, though he made cede some at-bats to Jose Iglesias when the Padres face a left-handed pitcher.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Homers twice in win

Turang went 2-for-6 with a pair of two-run homers in Sunday's 14-3 win over the Nationals.

Turang extended Milwaukee's lead to 3-0 in the second inning with a blast off Brad Lord before launching a second homer in the seventh off Ryan Loutos. The 26-year-old Turang is up to eight home runs this season, setting a new career high. He's swung the bat well in 13 games since the All-Star break, going 16-for-55 (.291) with an .831 OPS. Overall, Turang is slashing .276/.342/.386 with 65 runs scored, 49 RBI and 19 stolen bases across 452 plate appearances this season.

  • Luis Urias 2B | TOR

Athletics' Luis Urias: Succumbs to back issue

Urias was removed from Sunday's game against the Athletics after one inning due to lower back spasms, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Urias started at second base and played the opening frame before Gio Urshela came off the bench to replace him in the top of the second. The 28-year-old's turn in the batting order didn't come up before he was pulled from the game, so the back injury presumably cropped up while he was playing defense. The Athletics are off Monday, so Urias will have some extra time to recover before the team opens a three-game series in Washington on Tuesday.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Ticketed for IL

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged after Sunday's 3-0 win over the Rays that Edman will likely require a stint on the injured list, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. "I just don't see how it's not an IL [situation]," Roberts said, after Edman exited the game in the top of the fifth inning with a sprained right ankle.

For the second time in a week, Edman tweaked his ankle while running the bases, and though he avoided a trip to the IL the first time, it doesn't look as though he will be as fortunate this time around. According to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, Edman is scheduled to have his ankle examined when the Dodgers return to Los Angeles before a timeline for the utility man's return is established. Provided Max Muncy (knee) makes it out of his rehab game with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday no worse for the wear, he's expected to be activated Monday while Edman goes on the IL in a corresponding move. Muncy should step back in as the Dodgers' everyday third baseman, while Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas will vie for playing time at the keystone in the absence of Edman and Hyeseong Kim (shoulder).
