  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Getting turn in leadoff spot

Stott is starting at second base and batting leadoff in Friday's contest versus the Cardinals.

Stott has mostly hit eighth and no higher than fifth in the batting order this season previously, but he'll get a turn in the leadoff spot as the Phillies open a series in St. Louis. Kyle Schwarber had hit leadoff in every game versus a righty this season, but he's in the cleanup spot Friday versus righty Andre Pallante, who has reverse splits.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Starting rehab assignment

McNeil (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Friday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.

McNeil has been ramping up his rehab from a right oblique strain and has been cleared to test things out in game action. Upon his return, the 33-year-old McNeil will serve as the Mets' primary second baseman.

  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Expected back when first eligible

Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that he's pretty confident McLain (hamstring) will be ready for activation from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.

McLain's placement on the IL earlier this week with a left hamstring strain seemed largely precautionary, so it's not terribly surprising that he's trending toward a minimum absence. It appears the infielder will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back into the Reds' lineup once activated.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Expected to return Friday

Torres (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Torres strained his oblique March 28 but appears to be ready to return to the lineup in time for Friday's series opener against the Twins. He went 3-for-7 at the plate with a solo home run, an RBI, two runs scored, a stolen base and a 1:0 BB:K before suffering the injury.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: Showing progress at plate

Julien started at DH and went 1-for-3 with a double and walk in Thursday's 3-2 loss against Kansas City.

Julien is starting to show some life at the plate, as he's 3-for-10 with a walk in his last three games. He's hitting just .214 with a .576 OPS in 11 games. He has a chance to win regular playing time at DH and 2B with the rest of the lineup struggling, but his window of opportunity may be small with Brooks Lee (back) likely to return from the injured list soon.

  • Ryan Bliss SS | SEA

Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Expected to miss 4-to-5 months

Bliss will undergo surgery Friday to repair his left biceps tear and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-5 months, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Bliss suffered the injury on a swing during Tuesday's game against the Astros and was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. The 25-year-old had been serving as the Mariners' primary second baseman but is now looking at a lengthy rehab. Dylan Moore should see the bulk of the playing time at second base for Seattle moving forward.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Not in Kansas City lineup

Massey is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Twins.

It's the first day off this season for Massey, who has put up a lowly .563 OPS in his first 12 contests. Maikel Garcia will be at second base and bat sixth for the Royals.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Not in Cleveland lineup

Arias is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest against the White Sox, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Arias has been an everyday player for the Guardians this season, mostly at second base, but he will receive a day off in Thursday's series finale. Daniel Schneemann will occupy the keystone and bat eighth as Cleveland goes for the sweep.

  • Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: Starts in center field

Campbell started in center field and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Toronto.

Campbell made his third outfield start Wednesday and could eventually become qualified for multiple positions for fantasy lineups. When Campbell is in the outfield, David Hamilton typically starts at second base.

  • Tim Tawa 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Drives in two

Tawa went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 9-0 win over the Orioles.

Tawa capped the Diamondbacks' five-run fifth inning with a two-run single that plated Alek Thomas and Jake McCarthy. Tawa started at second base for the third time in five games since Ketel Marte (hamstring) was added to the 10-day injured list. He and Garrett Hampson have alternated starts. With Marte expected to miss a "series of weeks," per manager Torey Lovullo, Tawa is in position to see ample opportunities through the end of the month.
