  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Thinks he could DH Thursday

Gorman (back) believes he could be available at least as a designated hitter Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Gorman is dealing with a nagging back injury which he actually initially suffered back in 2020-21 offseason during a weightlifting incident. It's more of an issue for him in the field when he has to bend over to field grounders, so it's possible he could stay on the roster but be limited to DH duty for a while. The Cardinals could also opt to go ahead and put him on the injured list to give him some extended rest, especially since they have a few other players that are also banged up.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Stuffs box score in win

Diaz went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, two walks and a run in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Diaz was a big part of Oakland's four-run first inning, with his timely two-bagger bringing home Aledmys Diaz and Carlos Perez to extend the Athletics' lead to 3-0 at the time. The rookie snapped a brief 0-for-10 slump in the process while continuing his recent pattern of admirable plate discipline -- despite carrying just a .209 average over 52 August plate appearances, Diaz boasts a .346 on-base percentage and modest 15.4 percent strikeout rate during that sample thanks mostly to a 17.3 percent walk rate.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Heating up at home

Rodgers went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Rodgers delivered a two-RBI double and came around to score in the sixth inning to briefly give the Rockies the lead. After a slow start in his return from a hamstring injury that cost him the first four months of the season, Rodgers has benefitted from hitter-friendly Coors Field to tally four hits across 12 at-bats while racking up five RBI and two runs scored across his last three games. He's hit between fourth and sixth in Colorado's lineup but figures to be an everyday player down the stretch of the campaign.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Homers, drives in three

Polanco went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Tigers.

Polanco gave the Twins a 4-0 lead with his sacrifice fly in the second inning and later added a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Twins back within two runs of Detroit. The veteran infielder has now hit safely in four of his last five games, driving in six runs over that stretch to go along with three walks and three runs scored.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

    Astros' Jose Altuve: Precautionary exit

Altuve went 0-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI on Wednesday against the Marlins.

Altuve returned to the lineup after he exited Tuesday's game following a foul ball off his knee. He was also lifted from Wednesday's game in the eighth inning due to leg soreness, though manager Dusty Baker said the removal was precautionary, per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. The Astros also had a significant lead in the game at the time, and they also have Thursday off to give Altuve an additional day of rest.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Mariners' Jose Caballero: Racks up three hits in win

Caballero went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Royals.

Caballero logged his second straight multi-hit game, going 5-for-9 in that span. He's up to four steals over 13 games in August despite logging just 21 at-bats in the month. The infielder has found some extra playing time at shortstop lately with J.P. Crawford (concussion) on the injured list -- Caballero has started three of the last six games there after primarily working at second base. The 26-year-old is at a .237/.355/.342 slash line with three home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and 22 steals through 231 plate appearances.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting against lefty

Turang isn't in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.

With left-handed ace Clayton Kershaw set to start on the mound for Los Angeles, Turang will take a seat for the beginning of Wednesday's game. Andruw Monasterio will shift to second base in Turang's place, allowing Brian Anderson to start at third.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: On bench versus lefty

Frazier is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Padres.

Jordan Westburg will start at second base and bat fifth with left-hander Blake Snell readying to take the mound for San Diego. The left-handed-hitting Frazier has slashed just .189/.283/.321 in 60 plate appearances versus southpaws this season.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Homers in win

Lowe went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-1 win over San Francisco.

Lowe extended the Rays' lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning with a two-run, 421-foot blast off Ross Stripling. It's Lowe's 16th homer of the year and his sixth in 17 games -- he's gone 18-for-64 (.218) in that span. The 29-year-old Lowe is now slashing .222/.315/.433 with 48 RBI, 42 runs scored and six steals across 324 plate appearances this season.

  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Nabs fourth straight start

Espinal will start at third base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Espinal will stick in the lineup for the fourth game in a row, with each of his last three starts now coming at third base in place of the injured Matt Chapman (finger). Though he's held his own over the last three games with three hits, two RBI and two runs over 11 at-bats, Espinal will likely be headed back to a utility role in the near future, assuming Chapman is able to avoid a trip to the injured list.
