Liover Peguero SS | PIT
Pirates' Liover Peguero: Heads to bench Wednesday
Peguero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Peguero has served as the Pirates' primary shortstop since he was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on July 17, but he'll give way Wednesday to Alika Williams, who is making his first MLB start. In six games with Pittsburgh, Peguero is hitting just .158 and has struck out in 10 of his 20 plate appearances. Peguero's early struggles could prompt the Pirates to pull the plug on him as an everyday player and send him back to Triple-A if he's unable to get going anytime soon.

Twins' Jorge Polanco: To return this weekend

He will play a seventh and final rehab game with Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday before rejoining the big club Friday. Giants' David Villar: Heads back to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Villar to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Villar will head back to Triple-A after being called up July 19, having gone hitless across 11 at-bats with a run scored, a walk and seven strikeouts in limited action following his promotion. Top prospect Marco Luciano was called up from Sacramento and will likely make his major-league debut Wednesday versus the Athletics.

Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Flashing power
Lowe went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Marlins.
Lowe took George Soriano deep in the sixth inning to tally his 11th homer of the campaign. Though it was only his second time clearing the fences since returning from the injured list July 4, both of those homers have come in his last seven games (along with a double). He has also struck out at only a 17.9 percent clip since his return, which has helped him maintain a .250 average and .357 on-base percentage across 56 plate appearances.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Extends hit streak
Marte went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Cardinals.
With the Diamondbacks down, 1-0, entering the eighth inning, Marte led off with a triple and trotted home on a single. An earlier single extended his hit streak to six games, and Marte is scorching hot since the All-Star break. The second baseman is 16-for-45 (.356) with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored over 11 contests.

Michael Massey 2B | KC
Royals' Michael Massey: Nabs steal in loss
Massey went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Guardians.
It was another quiet game for the Royals' offense, but Massey was at least able to provide a spark. Four of the team's five hits came from the bottom third of the order. The second baseman hasn't run much -- his steal Tuesday was his fourth of the season and first since May 27. Massey is slashing .215/.268/.343 with seven home runs, 29 RBI, 20 runs scored, seven doubles and a triple through 75 contests. Despite the lackluster hitting, he continues to see a majority of the playing time at the keystone.

Nolan Gorman 2B | STL
Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Hitless in return
Gorman (back) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Gorman missed two games while dealing with back pain. Entering Tuesday, he had gone 11-for-26 (.423) over his last eight games. He's at a .239/.321/.482 slash line with 20 home runs, 62 RBI, 43 runs scored and five stolen bases through 91 contests. Gorman should continue to see a starting role at second base while Brendan Donovan remains on a no-throw program.
