  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Huge effort in win

Hoerner went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. He also stole two bases.

Hoerner showed off all aspects of his game Tuesday, recording his seventh home run of the season along with his 23rd and 24th stolen bases. The power is a nice bonus as the base stealing has been the infielder's calling card this year. The 24 steals lead the team by a healthy margin and are a new career high for Hoerner, who should continue to be a strong fantasy contributor.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Begins hitting progression

Estrada (hand) resumed hitting and fielding grounders Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Estrada landed on the injured list toward the beginning of July and isn't expected to return until August, but he seems to be trending in the right direction. Estrada will likely embark on a rehab assignment in the near future, at which point a clearer picture regarding his return date should emerge.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Back in lineup

Arroyo (thumb) is starting at second base Tuesday against Atlanta, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

A jammed right thumb has kept Arroyo out of the Red Sox's lineup for the past few days, but he'll return for Tuesday's game against Atlanta. With the departure of Enrique Hernandez to the Dodgers on Tuesday, Arroyo figures to face less competition for playing time at second base.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Gorman (back) is starting at second base and batting sixth Tuesday versus Arizona.

Gorman was held out of Sunday's series finale against the Cubs along with Monday's series opener against the Diamondbacks, but his sore back is apparently feeling much better. The 23-year-old slugger carries an .813 OPS with 20 home runs and 62 RBI through 90 games this season.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Sits down Tuesday

Diaz isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday against the Giants.

After going 2-for-4 with a double during Monday's loss to the Astros, Diaz will get a breather for Tuesday's series opener against San Francisco. Tyler Soderstrom will serve as Oakland's DH, and Zack Gelof will start at second base.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Could return Wednesday

Astros manager Dusty Baker said there's a chance Altuve (oblique) could be activated Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Yordan Alvarez (oblique) is also a possibility for Wednesday's series finale against the Rangers. Altuve landed on the injured list July 6 due to left oblique soreness, but he's been doing baseball activities without issue for the last week or so and will apparently be allowed to skip a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Returning to Dodgers in trade

The Dodgers acquired Hernandez in a trade from the Red Sox on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The Red Sox will receive pitchers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman in return for Hernandez, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com.

Hernandez has posted an ugly .222/.279/.320 batting line in 323 plate appearances this season after also struggling at the dish in 2022, but he can play shortstop and second base, and the Dodgers need help at both spots. The 31-year-old seems likely to operate in a super-utility role, even covering some outfield, as he makes his return to Los Angeles. He played six seasons with the Dodgers between 2015 and 2020.

  • Angels' Brandon Drury: Making nice progress

Drury (shoulder) hit off a high-velocity pitching machine Tuesday and is slated to face live pitching on the field Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Those are expected to be the last boxes Drury needs to check, although he could repeat them for a few days before being activated. Drury has been sidelined for most of July with left shoulder inflammation but would appear on pace to return to the Angels' lineup soon.

  • Rockies' Harold Castro: On bench Tuesday

Castro is not in the lineup Tuesday at Washington.

Castro went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the Rockies' series-opening defeat of the Nationals on Monday, but Alan Trejo will get the nod at second base and bat eighth in Tuesday's tilt.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Not in lineup Tuesday

Garcia is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Michael Chavis will start at second base and bat seventh as the Nationals face off against left-hander Austin Gomber. The left-handed-hitting Garcia has slashed just .257/.266/.391 with one home run in 114 plate appearances this year versus southpaws.
