White Sox's Elvis Andrus: Tracking toward homestand return

General manager Rick Hahn said that Andrus (oblique) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during the White Sox's current homestand, which runs through Sunday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Andrus has missed the last two weeks with a strained oblique but began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte over the weekend, going 3-for-7 with a home run in two games. Romy Gonzalez has played well lately and the White Sox have also talked about using Jake Burger at second base, but Andrus still seems likely to receive most of the starts at the keystone once he's activated.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: On bench in series opener

Kemp is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.

Kemp started at second base in four of the past five games but failed to break out of his season-long slumber at the dish, as he went hitless in nine at-bats and reached base twice in 11 plate appearances. He'll cede his spot in the lineup Monday to the newly recalled Jonah Bride, who will man third base while Jace Peterson shifts over to the keystone. If Bride can offer a spark at the plate in what will be his season debut with the big club, Kemp could soon find himself out of the lineup against right-handed pitching on a more regular basis.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Plans to play Tuesday

McNeil (groin) said he expects to return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McNeil was on the bench for Sunday's 11-10 loss to the Rockies while he tended to a tight groin, but he felt well enough to enter the contest as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and singled in his lone at-bat before coming around to score. With a team off day Monday, McNeil looks like he'll be ready to return to a starting role Tuesday, presumably either at second base or in the corner outfield.

  • Brett Wisely 2B | ATL

Giants' Brett Wisely: Takes seat against lefty

Wisely is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.

The lefty-hitting rookie has been serving as the primary replacement at second base for the injured Thairo Estrada (wrist) of late, but he'll take a seat for the series opener with Pittsburgh bringing southpaw Rich Hill to the mound. Casey Schmitt will check in for Wisely at the keystone.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Steals seventh bag

Kim went 1-for-2 with two walks, three runs and a stolen base in a loss to the Yankees on Sunday.

Kim reached base three times in the contest, the seventh time he has accomplished that feat this season. He also notched a campaign-high three runs and stole his seventh base. Kim notched a career-high 12 thefts last season, so he is well above pace to exceed that mark this year.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Getting rest Monday

Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

Marte is likely receiving a routine day off after starting at second base in each of Arizona's last nine games and producing at least one hit in the last eight contests to bring his season average up to .282. Josh Rojas will slide over from third base to fill in for the resting Marte at the keystone.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Nationals' Michael Chavis: On base three times in rare start

Chavis went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Royals.

Getting the start at third base and hitting seventh, Chavis delivered his first multi-hit performance of the season and drove in his second run. The 27-year-old has seen little action off the Nationals' bench this season, but over 15 appearances he's batting .290 (9-for-31) while mainly getting used against left-handed pitching.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Continues running program

Polanco (hamstring) was spotted taking part in sprinting and running drills on the field Sunday at Target Field, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Polanco was eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Sunday, but he doesn't look like he'll require too much more time beyond the minimum before being ready to return. The second baseman has now been able to run on multiple occasions since landing on the IL and has continued to take batting practice. Edouard Julien will likely hold down the fort at second base until Polanco is deemed ready for activation, possibly later this week.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Goes yard in three-hit effort

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 10-1 win over the Athletics.

Altuve has multiple hits in each of his last three games, and he's hit safely in six of seven contests this season. While all but one of his games have come against the A's, Altuve looks all the way back after missing time with a broken thumb to begin the campaign. The second baseman is hitting .370 with a homer, two RBI, six runs scored and four doubles through 31 plate appearances.

  • Owen Miller 2B | CHC

    Brewers' Owen Miller: X-rays negative

Miller (forearm) underwent X-rays that came back negative Sunday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Miller exited Sunday's game against the Giants with a bruised right forearm, and further testing didn't reveal any structural damage. He's considered day-to-day for now, and manager Craig Counsell hopes Miller will be able to return to action for Tuesday's series opener in Toronto.
