  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Four doubles in win

Donovan went 4-for-5 with four doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 9-8 win over the Giants.

Donovan missed Monday's game due to groin tightness, but he was able to get cleared in time to play Tuesday. He played a vital role in the Cardinals' offense in this game with the quartet of two-baggers. He's up to 31 doubles on the year, which is three shy of his career-high total from 153 games last season. Donovan has added a .287/.354/.421 slash line with 10 home runs, 49 RBI, 63 runs scored and three stolen bases over 117 contests in 2025.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Big game in loss

Hoerner went 3-for-5 with an RBI and four runs scored in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Mets. He also stole a base.

With New York starting lefty David Peterson, Hoerner batted leadoff instead of Michael Busch, and the former responded with a standout performance. The speedy infielder set a new season high in runs scored, and he's been red hot lately with a .412 batting average over his last 12 games. Hoerner also has 29 stolen bases this season, putting him within striking distance of his third straight 30-steal campaign.

  • Luke Keaschall 2B | MIN

Twins' Luke Keaschall: Lifted early Tuesday

Keaschall was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a left thumb injury, Audra Martin of FanDuel Sports Network North reports.

Keaschall's hand hit the bag hard during his steal of second base in the second inning, and he was eventually taken out of the game during the fourth frame. The Twins will take a closer look at him and should provide an update on his status in the near future.

  • Jose Fermin 2B | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Taken out of lineup

Fermin was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Fermin was initially penciled in to start at second base for the injured Brendan Donovan (groin), but the latter was cleared to play shortly before Tuesday's contest and took Fermin's place in the lineup. The 26-year-old has done well while serving as infield depth this season, slashing .315/.403/.463 with nine RBI, four runs scored and two steals through 63 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Late addition to lineup

Donovan (groin) will start at second base and bat leadoff Tuesday against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Donovan was left off the first iteration of St. Louis' lineup Tuesday, but he's now been cleared to play after sitting out Monday's game with groin tightness. The 28-year-old has slashed .321/.367/.500 over 30 plate appearances since returning from the injured list Sept. 12.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Ruled out for 2025

Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Semien (foot) will not play again this season, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Semien resumed taking live BP and running Friday, but with the Rangers five games out of a wild-card spot with six to play, the team will pull the plug on its efforts to get the veteran infielder back in the lineup this year. He'll close the book on 2025 with a career-low .669 OPS alongside 15 homers, 62 RBI, 62 runs scored and 11 steals through 127 games. Cody Freeman projects to be the Rangers' primary second baseman for the remainder of the regular season.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Not starting Tuesday

Cronenworth is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus Milwaukee.

Cronenworth will get a breather after going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Brewers. Mason McCoy will take over at second base and bat ninth in his place.

  • Will Wagner 2B | SD

Padres' Will Wagner: Sent to ACL

The Padres optioned Wagner to the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday.

Wagner was optioned to create space on the active roster for Xander Bogaerts's (foot) reinstation from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Wagner was recalled Aug. 24 to fill in for Jackson Merrill, who had an ankle injury at the time. Since then, Wagner got just 13 plate appearances in the 13 games he played in and reached base twice.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Donovan (groin) isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

The Cardinals expected Donovan to return to the starting nine Tuesday after he was scratched Monday with a groin injury, but he'll instead take another day to recover while Jose Fermin starts at the keystone. With just five games left on the regular-season schedule and St. Louis flirting with elimination from postseason contention, the Cardinals may opt to shut Donovan down for the rest of the year if his condition doesn't improve soon.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Resting Tuesday

Schmitt isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus St. Louis, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Schmitt will receive a day to rest after going 1-for-4 with a run scored during a loss in Monday's series opener. Christian Koss will replace him at second base Tuesday and bat eighth.
