  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Sitting in second straight game

Miranda is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Miranda will take a seat for the second day in a row after getting on base at a .167 clip over 18 plate appearances through his first five starts of the season. The Twins haven't indicated that Miranda is dealing with an injury, so his consecutive benchings seem to be performance-related. The 26-year-old doesn't bring much value defensively at third base, so if he's unable to pick up the pace at the plate anytime soon, Miranda could lose hold of a regular spot in the lineup. Edouard Julien will pick up another start at the keystone Thursday while super-utility man Willi Castro shifts over to third base.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Astros' Isaac Paredes: Still searching for rhythm

Paredes went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Giants.

Paredes is off to a frosty start at the dish for his new team, batting .150 (3-for-20) with two RBI in six outings after going 6-for-32 (.188) with one home run during spring training. The righty-hitting infielder's reputation as a pull hitter should eventually translate to more power, with the short porch in left field at Minute Maid Park playing to his strengths.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Knocks in game-winning run

Smith started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Cincinnati.

For the second straight day, the Rangers made one run enough. On Tuesday, Wyatt Langford's solo home run was the difference, and Smith's fourth-inning, two-out double plated Joc Pederson for the game's lone run Wednesday. Smith made his second start at shortstop and likely would have had a third if not for a minor quadriceps injury. The Rangers appear to be managing Corey Seager early in the season; he's played five of seven games including one at DH. In addition to shortstop, Smith is getting run at third base while Josh Jung (neck) is on the injured list.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Quiet start to season continues

Bregman went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Baltimore.

Bregman is a quiet 6-for-26 (.231) with zero RBI or extra-base hits to begin his debut season in Boston, which is rather disappointing after he hit .279 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI in 43 at-bats during spring training. Fantasy managers are still in anticipation of the star third baseman's first games this season at Fenway Park, where Bregman is batting a robust .375 (30-for-80) with seven long balls, nine doubles, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored in 21 games for his career at the ballpark.

  • Dylan Moore 2B | TEX

Mariners' Dylan Moore: Cracks first homer of 2025

Moore went 1-for-1 with two walks and a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Detroit.

Moore smacked an 87-mph slider off Tarik Skubal deep to right field for what was ultimately the game-deciding home run. Two of Moore's three starts have come at second base, and his versatility to serve in the infield and outfield should allow him to see at least semi-regular playing time in 2025.

  • Cam Smith 3B | HOU

Astros' Cam Smith: Day off Wednesday

Smith is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Giants.

Smith is off to a bit of a slow start at the plate, going 2-for-11 with a couple singles and four strikeouts. Zach Dezenzo is getting the call in right field for the Astros while Smith receives a breather.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | ATH

Athletics' Gio Urshela: Getting day off

Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Urshela will get some rest for the day game after he started in each of the last three games. Luis Urias will check in for Urshela at third base.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Rays' Jose Caballero: Making first start in outfield

Caballero will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Caballero has logged six career innings in the outfield over his two-plus seasons in the big leagues, but he'll be making his first start at an outfield spot Wednesday. Though Caballero still seems to be viewed as a utility player, manager Kevin Cash could continue to explore ways to get the speedy 28-year-old in the lineup while he's putting good plate appearances together. Through three games, Caballero has gone 3-for-6 with three walks, one double, three RBI, one run and one stolen base.

  • Will Wagner 2B | SD

Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Sitting against left-hander

Wagner is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.

The Blue Jays faced right-handers in each of the first six games of the season and the left-handed hitting Wagner was in the lineup for all of them. With the Nationals sending southpaw MacKenzie Gore to the hill, Wagner will take a seat. Ernie Clement is at third base for the Blue Jays, and George Springer is at designated hitter.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Garcia is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Milwaukee.

Garcia didn't start Opening Day but had been in the lineup for each of the last four games before beginning this one on the bench. Jonathan India is covering third base for the Royals against Freddy Peralta and the Brewers.
