Angels' Anthony Rendon: Increases activities Friday

Rendon (hamstring) took grounders, hit and ran Friday, per MLB.com.

Rendon continues to ramp up as he attempts to return to action after being diagnosed with a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring in late April. The veteran third baseman's next step in his rehab is expected to include cutting while running as part of his agility drills. If Rendon continues to make progress, he could be activated from the injured list in early-to-mid July.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Aiming for return Monday

Jung (wrist) told reporters Saturday that he believes he could return to the Rangers on Monday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Jung noted that his wrist still feels stiff when swinging the bat, and that his return is still under discussion. His right wrist was fractured after being hit by a pitch April 1, and he underwent surgery one day later. He began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on June 16 and has gone 4-for-17 with one RBI over four outings.

  • Athletics' Armando Alvarez: Contract selected by Oakland

The Athletics selected Alvarez's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Alvarez has been playing well in Triple-A this season, slashing .311/.401/.528 with 27 runs, eight home runs and 33 RBI over 187 plate appearances. His move to the big club corresponds with Abraham Toro being placed on the injured list due to a right hamstring strain. While Tyler Nevin figures to get most of the reps at the hot corner with Toro sidelined, Alvarez could see some playing time at third base and, in the process, make his major-league debut.

  • Abraham Toro 3B | OAK

Athletics' Abraham Toro: Lands on IL with strained hamstring

The Athletics placed Toro on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a strained right hamstring.

Toro returned to the lineup Friday after missing the three previous games due to a shoulder strain. He went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk in Friday's 6-5 win over the Twins, but he was replaced by Tyler Nevin in the top of the seventh inning due to the hamstring strain. Nevin and Aledmys Diaz should see increased playing time with Toro sidelined, as could Armando Alvarez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Adds another steal

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Blue Jays.

The Guardians did all their damage in the second inning, with Ramirez contributing an RBI single to the seven-run rally. The third baseman has gone 5-for-16 with three steals, three RBI and four runs scored over four games since he returned from the paternity list. Ramirez is at a .271/.331/.521 slash line with 14 steals in 16 attempts, 18 home runs, 65 RBI and 55 runs scored through 70 contests as the engine of the Guardians' offense.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | LAA

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Two steals in win

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with two stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Dodgers.

Rengifo reached the 20-steal mark for the season Friday after totaling just 18 thefts over his first five campaigns combined. The infielder has been good in June, batting .279 (19-for-68) with eight steals on 11 attempts, though he has just one extra-base hit this month. For the year, he's at a .311/.360/.425 slash line with four home runs, 20 RBI, 28 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple through 59 contests.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Continues power surge

Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Athletics.

Lewis homered for the fifth time in his last six games, taking Joey Estes deep in the sixth inning. With 10 homers, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over just 16 contests this season, Lewis has been hugely productive when he hasn't been on the injured list. He won't keep up that homer pace, but as long as he stays healthy he should remain a fantasy asset.

  • Abraham Toro 3B | OAK

Athletics' Abraham Toro: Headed for injured list

Toro suffered a strained hamstring Friday and will be placed on the injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Toro was held out of the lineup earlier in the week with a shoulder issue and returned to the lineup Friday. He suffered an unrelated hamstring injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Tyler Nevin and Aledmys Diaz figure to see increased playing time.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Returning to Arlington

Jung (wrist) was pulled from his rehab assignment Friday to be evaluated in Arlington before the Rangers decide whether or not to activate him this weekend, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung went 4-for-17 in four rehab games with Triple-A Round Rock and could be cleared to rejoin the Rangers' active roster this weekend. The third baseman hasn't played since fracturing his wrist April 1 and was initially expected to receive roughly 30 plate appearances in the minor leagues before being reinstated. Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran have been handling most of the third base work during Jung's absence.

  • Abraham Toro 3B | OAK

Athletics' Abraham Toro: Back in lineup Friday

Toro (shoudler) is starting at third base and hitting in the leadoff spot for Friday's series opener against the Twins.

Shoulder soreness kept Toro out of the starting lineup in the Athletics' last three games, though he did pinch hit in the seventh inning of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Royals. On the season, Toro is slashing .259/.300/.387 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI over 291 plate appearances.
