  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Extended absence on tap

The Giants placed Longoria on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a sprained left shoulder. Manager Gabe Kapler said X-rays on Longoria's shoulder returned negative, but the veteran third baseman is expected to remain out for 4-to-6 weeks, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Based on the estimated recovery timeline, Longoria will likely remain on the shelf through or shortly before the All-Star break in mid-July. The injury is a tough blow for the 35-year-old, who was enjoying a resurgent season with an .892 OPS through 186 plate appearances on the season. Wilmer Flores will start at third base in place of Longoria in Sunday's game against the Cubs, and Flores could end up handling everyday duties at the position while Longoria is on the shelf.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Sits in series finale

Escobar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

He'll head to the bench for the first time in exactly a month, as he had started in every game for Arizona since May 6. Ildemaro Vargas will fill in at third base for Escobar, who has gone 9-for-25 with two home runs and three RBI over his last six starts.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Gets breather Sunday

Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

After making six straight starts at second base, Segura will cede the position to Brad Miller on Sunday in what likely amounts to a routine maintenance day for the former. Segura has made his biggest fantasy impact with his legs over the past two weeks, going 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Bows out of lineup

Newman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Erik Gonzalez will fill in at shortstop for Newman, who takes a seat after starting in each of the Pirates' last seven games. After closing May as the Pirates' No. 2 hitter, Newman had slotted seventh or eighth in the order in each of his last four starts. The return of everyday first baseman Colin Moran (groin) from the injured list Sunday likely means Newman will continue to hit out of a bottom-third spot on a regular basis.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Sitting Sunday, may return Tuesday

Manager Dave Roberts said that Muncy (ankle) may be available in a pinch-hitting capacity for Sunday's series finale in Atlanta, and the Dodgers are hopeful the 30-year-old will be ready to rejoin the lineup Tuesday in Pittsburgh, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The Dodgers are electing to hold Muncy out of the starting nine for a second straight game Sunday since his right ankle his still feeling stiff after he sprained it Friday. While Los Angeles is holding off on moving Muncy to the IL, if he can't get back in the lineup Tuesday following Monday's off day, the team may have to reconsider the matter. Per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, Roberts admitted that he'll have to "have another conversation" about Muncy's status Wednesday if he's not back in the lineup by Tuesday. Muncy has been one of the majors' hottest hitters since the beginning of May, posting a 1.067 OPS over the last five weeks.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Dropped from leadoff spot

Suarez will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Cardinals.

After making nine consecutive starts out of the leadoff spot from May 25 through Friday, Suarez's time atop the order appears to be over. He slotted sixth in the lineup during Saturday's 5-2 win, and Suarez will remain in that spot again for the series finale while Jonathan India gets another turn in the leadoff role as Cincinnati faces right-hander John Gant.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

    Reds' Kyle Farmer: Resting Sunday

Farmer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Mike Freeman will take over at shortstop in place of Farmer, who has emerged as a regular in the Cincinnati infield since Nick Senzel (knee) and Mike Moustakas (heel) hit the shelf with injuries in mid-May. Farmer's role still appears to be secure, but his fantasy appeal exists mainly in NL-only leagues at this point. Over 161 plate appearances on the season, Farmer has slashed .205/.273/.308 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 14 runs and one stolen base.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Belts 13th homer

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's win over the Cardinals.

Suarez broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run shot of Ryan Helsley in the sixth inning, giving him 13 homers on the campaign and snapping a four-game skid with no RBI. He'll look to help the Reds to a four-game series sweep of St. Louis on Sunday.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Logs three hits in loss

Arenado went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Reds.

Arenado gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead when he drove in Tommy Edman with an RBI single in the the first inning and later tied the the game at two with another RBI knock in the fourth. The third baseman now has 38 RBI to go along with a .274/.320/.509 slash line across 244 plate appearances this season. One slight negative is that Arenado has only gone yard once since May 18, though he still has 11 home runs on the season.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Sits amid hot streak

Riley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Ehire Adrianza will step in at third base to replace Riley, who is getting a breather for the first time since April 16. The 24-year-old has overcome a slow start to the season to emerge as the driving force of the Atlanta offense over the past three weeks. Since a four-strikeout game May 15 in Milwaukee, Riley is slashing .355/.400/.774 with seven home runs, 15 RBI and 14 runs over a stretch of 17 contests.
