Mets' J.D. Davis: Weekend return possible

Davis (hand) is feeling better and could return to action this weekend, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Davis has already spent the minimum 10 days on the injured list with a sprained left hand, but reports from earlier this week were somewhat pessimistic. He's evidently made good progress in recent days, however, so his absence isn't expected to last much longer.

  • Padres' Ivan Castillo: Called up to major leagues

Castillo's contract was selected by the Padres on Friday.

With Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) hitting the injured list, Castillo will join the major-league roster for the first time to provide some depth around the Padres' infield, at least until a fresh bullpen arm is needed. The 25-year-old got off to a 12-for-27 start with Triple-A El Paso to begin the 2021 season, although none of those base knocks left the yard.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Not starting Friday

Senzel (heel) will sit Friday against the Rockies.

Senzel left Thursday's series opener with what was eventually diagnosed as a heel contusion after crashing into the outfield wall while chasing a flyball. The Reds don't expect him to miss an extended period, but he'll sit for at least one game, with Jonathan India getting the start at second base and Tyler Naquin starting in center field.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Tallies three hits Thursday

Arenado went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Cardinals' 2-0 win over the Brewers on Thursday.

In a game that lacked offense, Arenado reached base three times, all on singles, and knocked in one of the game's two runs in the first inning. He continued his 10-game streak of reaching base safely. The 30-year-old leads the Cardinals with 19 extra-base hits and 24 RBI. He is slashing .284/.342/.500 in 161 plate appearances.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Not dealing with long-term injury

Senzel (heel) is not expected to have a long-term absence, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Senzel exited Thursday's contest in the third inning and was diagnosed with a heel contusion. While it appears he avoided a serious injury, it remains unclear when he will be able to return to the lineup. Shogo Akiyama could see an uptick in playing time if Senzel remains sidelined for the team's weekend series against the Rockies at Coors Field.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: OK after injury scare

Moustakas suffered a shoulder injury Thursday against the Rockies but will be back in the lineup Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Moustakas exited in the fifth inning with the injury, though there was no concern about his status moving forward. He should be ready to return to the middle of the Reds' lineup to complete the team's weekend series at Coors Field.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Dealing with apparent finger injury

Moustakas was removed from Thursday's game and was having his finger looked at, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Moustakas exited in the fifth inning, though it's not clear how he picked up the potential injury. Alex Blandino replaced him at first base.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Dealing with heel injury

Senzel exited Thursday's contest against the Rockies with a heel contusion.

Senzel appeared to injure himself after running into the wall in the first inning. He remained in the game for another frame before being pulled but appears to have avoided serious injury. If he is forced to miss further game action, Shogo Akiyama figures to be a potential beneficiary.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Exits with injury

Senzel exited Thursday's game against the Rockies with an undisclosed injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Senzel hit the outfield wall trying to track down a fly ball in the first inning. He remained in the contest for an additional inning, but Shogo Akiyama replaced him as a pinch-hitter in the third frame. Though no specifics were given, the news is concerning given Senzel's lengthy history of injury.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Receives rare off day

Riley is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Riley will exit the lineup for the first time since April 16, breaking a streak of 22 consecutive starts. Ehire Adrianza will step in at the hot corner as a replacement for Riley, who will put a four-game hit streak on hold as he heads to the bench.
