Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Expected to miss multiple days

Suarez (hand) is expected to miss multiple games while dealing with swelling in his right hand, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

Suarez was hit in the right hand by a fastball in the first inning of Monday's contest against the White Sox. The third baseman is dealing with "a ton of swelling," and there's a "minimal chance that he plays in a game" over the next couple of days, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Once the swelling goes down, Suarez will undergo an MRI, but Lovullo doesn't expect the veteran to require a stint on the injured list. With an off day looming Thursday, Suarez could be ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener versus the Marlins at the earliest.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Likely back in lineup Wednesday

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that "all indications" are that Westburg (finger) will be ready to return to the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Westburg will miss a third straight start Tuesday with a sprained left index finger. There's a chance the Orioles will hold him out Wednesday with an off day looming Thursday, but Mansolino said Westburg will "definitely" play Friday, if not before.

  • Addison Barger SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Addison Barger: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Barger is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Cleveland.

Barger sat out Saturday's game due to hip discomfort before returning to the lineup Sunday, but he finds himself back on the bench for Tuesday's series opener versus the Guardians. It has yet to be reported that the 25-year-old has aggravated the injury, so it may simply be a rest day. Jonatan Clase is starting in right field and batting seventh Tuesday for Toronto.

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Will sit out Tuesday

Suarez (hand) won't be included in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.

X-rays on Suarez's right hand came back negative after he was struck by a pitch in his lone plate appearance in Monday's 10-0 win, but he'll get at least one game off while he waits for the soreness and bruising on his hand to subside. Arizona will likely turn to Ildemaro Vargas or Tim Tawa to fill in for Suarez at third base.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Making progress with running

Lewis (hamstring) began some change-of-direction running Monday, MLB.com reports.

It sounds like he hasn't progressed to running the bases, however. Lewis will likely continue to ramp up a running program this week before the Twins consider sending him on a rehab assignment. It's still possible he could return in early July.

  • Brady House SS | WAS

Nationals' Brady House: Nabs second steal

House went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Padres.

The 22-year-old rookie notched his first extra-base hit in the majors with his ninth-inning two-bagger. While House's power hasn't shown up yet for the Nationals, he's surprisingly stolen two bags in two attempts over eight MLB games after failing in his only attempt in 65 contests for Triple-A Rochester prior to his promotion. Through his first 35 plate appearances for the Nats, House is slashing .250/.286/.281.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Rehab moving to Double-A

Marte (oblique) will shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Marte begin his rehab assignment last weekend in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he played two partial games at third base and one full game at designated hitter. Oblique injuries can be tricky, so Marte may still require several more games in the minors at Double-A and Triple-A Louisville before the Reds activate him from the injured list. Once reinstated, Marte could slot back in as the primary third baseman for the Reds.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Hits homer in defeat

Machado went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to Washington.

Machado put the Padres on the board with a solo blast to center field in the fourth inning, but that was the only time he was able to reach base. The long ball was his 1,990th career hit, and he appears to be a lock to reach 2,000 over the coming weeks. Machado has been scuffling a bit of late, though, batting just .188 (9-for-48) -- albeit with three homers and eight RBI -- over his past 12 contests.

  • Jack Brannigan SS | PIT

Pirates' Jack Brannigan: Sidelined at Double-A

Double-A Altoona placed Brannigan on its 7-day injured list June 14 due to an unspecified injury.

The 24-year-old shortstop slashed .225/.329/.358 with five home runs and nine stolen bases over 237 plate appearances for Altoona this season before landing on the shelf.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Diagnosed with bruised hand

Suarez was removed from Monday's game against the White Sox due to a right hand contusion.

X-rays on Suarez's right hand returned negative after he was struck by a fastball in the first inning. The club will keep a close eye on the slugger over the next few days to determine when he can return to play, but it's a reassuring sign that Suarez has seemingly avoided any structural damage.
