Santiago Espinal 3B | TEX
Reds' Santiago Espinal: Starts at second base
Espinal started at second base and went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to the Blue Jays.
Espinal, who made a third consecutive start, was part of a lineup shuffle resulting from first baseman/designated hitter Jeimer Candelario (toe) landing on the 10-day injured list. Jonathan India moved from second base to DH, while Espinal took over at the keystone. He started the previous two games at third base, where Noelvi Marte's been playing, but Marte is in a prolonged slump and Espinal has earned additional opportunities with a strong second half so far. The utility infielder is batting .417/.440/.625 over 16 games since the All-Star break.

Brooks Lee SS | MIN
Twins' Brooks Lee: Could begin rehab assignment soon
Lee (shoulder) will work out Thursday with Triple-A St. Paul and could go on a rehab assignment over the weekend, MLB.com reports.
Lee has progressed in the past few days to throwing and hitting from both sides of the plate. Lee went on the injured list Aug. 9 with right biceps tendinitis, for which he received a cortisone shot. It sounds like he could be activated from the IL early next week.

Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU
Cubs' Isaac Paredes: Back in action Tuesday
Paredes (shoulder) will start at third base and bat fifth against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Right shoulder discomfort caused Paredes to be scratched from Chicago's lineup ahead of Sunday's contest, though he was able to make a pinch-hit appearance. After an extra day of rest Monday, the 25-year-old infielder now appears to be fine and will look to turn things around after going 0-for-12 across his last four games.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Still sitting Tuesday
Bregman (elbow) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
The third baseman will sit for the fifth consecutive game due to swelling in the back of his right elbow. Rome previously speculated Bregman may not rejoin the lineup until Thursday's series opener in Baltimore, but he hasn't been officially ruled out for Wednesday's series finale versus Boston.

Jordan Westburg 2B | BAL
Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Resumes baseball activities
Westburg (hand) has been cleared to field grounders and take one-handed swings, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
It's not much, but it's the beginning of a ramp-up for Westburg as he works his way back from a fractured right hand. The infielder will eventually need to undergo some additional imaging to see how his hand has healed before a clearer timetable for his return can be established. Westburg suffered the injury on July 31.

Oswaldo Cabrera 3B | NYY
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: On bench Tuesday
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Cleveland.
Cabrera started at third base in three of the first four games after Jazz Chisholm (elbow) hit the injured list Aug. 14, but he's yielded to Oswald Peraza at the hot corner in back-to-back contests -- both against a left-handed starting pitcher. Cabrera is slashing .251/.296/.376 with eight home runs in 285 plate appearances this season.

Ernie Clement 2B | TOR
Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Taking seat Tuesday
Clement is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.
Clement is absent from the starting nine for the first time in 28 games for what's likely a maintenance day. The infielder has been seeing the ball well this month, going 18-for-65 (.277) with a pair of homers, three stolen bases and a 10.3 percent K rate.

Jeimer Candelario 3B | LAA
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Goes on IL with fractured toe
The Reds placed Candelario on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured left great toe.
Candelario played the duration of Monday's win over the Blue Jays, so it's not clear when he suffered the injury. It's also uncertain at this juncture how long he might be sidelined. Candelario has seen most of his playing time lately at designated hitter and first base. His absence could create more opportunities for Ty France, Jake Fraley and Will Benson, as well as new waiver claim Amed Rosario, who is taking Candelario's roster spot.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. 2B | NYY
Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Boone: Minimum IL stay 'ambitious'
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in his appearance on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that it would be "a little ambitious" to think Chisholm (elbow) could return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible on Aug. 24.
Chisholm has, by all accounts, bounced back quickly from a UCL sprain in his left (non-throwing) elbow, as he's already resumed fielding grounders and hopes to be cleared to swing a bat soon. However, while the player had expressed optimism about returning when his 10 days are up, his manager is downplaying the possibility. A clearer timetable for Chisholm's return should be available in the coming days.

Connor Norby 1B | MIA
Marlins' Connor Norby: Collects hit in team debut
Norby went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks. He was also caught stealing.
Called up from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier in the day and making his Marlins debut as the club's starting third baseman, Norby brought home a run with a fielder's choice in the sixth inning before coming around to score on a Kyle Stowers single. Norby had been slashing .271/.338/.373 with one home run in 14 games for Triple-A Jacksonville since the late-July trade that brought him over from Baltimore, and he'll get a chance to lock down an everyday role for Miami over the final weeks of 2024.
