  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Activated from IL

The Pirates reinstated Hayes (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Hayes won't be in the Pirates' lineup Tuesday against the Tigers, but he was deemed healthy enough to rejoin Bucs' active roster after going 1-for-9 with a run scored during his three-game rehab assignment in Triple-A. Hayes has been on the IL since July 7 and will most likely return to action Wednesday.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Jean Segura: Cut loose by Cleveland

The Guardians released Segura after acquiring him from the Marlins on Tuesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old and Kahlil Watson were sent to Cleveland in exchange for Josh Bell, but Segura will instead head straight to the open market. Segura has struggled at the plate with a .219/.277/.279 slash line in 326 plate appearances this season, but it's still somewhat of a surprise to see the Guardians let him go with well over $10 million left on his contract.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jean Segura: Headed to Cleveland

The Marlins traded Segura and Kahlil Watson on Tuesday in exchange for Josh Bell, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The Marlins haven't quite received the production they were expecting from Segura when they signed him to a two-year deal in the offseason. He's slashing just .219/.277/.279 with 21 RBI through 326 plate appearances and will likely slot into a bench role.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Phillies' Rodolfo Castro: Traded to Philly

Castro was traded from the Pirates to the Phillies on Tuesday in exchange for Bailey Falter, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Best known for crushing left-handed pitching (career .277/.341/.559 slash line in 223 plate appearances), Castro had been at Triple-A Indianapolis for the past couple weeks after hitting .228/.317/.355 overall for the Pirates this season, contributing to a minus-0.3 fWAR. Castro provides the Phillies with some infield versatility, as he can play second base, third base and shortstop.

  • Cesar Prieto SS | STL

Cardinals' Cesar Prieto: Dealt to Cardinals for Flaherty

The Cardinals acquired Prieto, left-hander Drew Rom and right-hander Zack Showalter from the Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Jack Flaherty.

Prieto looks like he has a big-league future, but he was sufficiently blocked in the Orioles organization. A 24-year-old Cuban infielder, Prieto is hitting .317/.365/.471 with two home runs, two steals and an 8.7 percent strikeout rate in 27 games at Triple-A Norfolk. He'll likely report to the Cardinals' top affiliate in Memphis but could be in the mix for a late-season call-up to the big leagues.

  • Joe Perez 3B | PIT

Astros' Joe Perez: Moved off 40-man roster

The Astros designated Perez for assignment Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

With Justin Verlander returning to Houston through a trade with the Mets on Tuesday, Perez will come off the 40-man roster to create room for the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner. Perez is slashing .255/.328/.399 with 47 RBI through 357 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.

  • Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: To play first base regularly

Cubs manager David Ross said Tuesday that Candelario will get regular starts at first base, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Acquired from the Nationals on Monday in exchange for a pair of minor-leaguers, Candelario is making his Cubs debut at first base Tuesday night against the Reds. Nick Madrigal is starting at third base and Christopher Morel is serving as the designated hitter. This new defensive formation will allow Cody Bellinger to see more action in center field as Chicago looks to make a late run at the NL Central title.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

    Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Nearing activation

Hayes (back) won't be in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Tigers, but he could be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday or Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

For those in weekly lineup leagues, Hayes could play most of the week, but he won't be in the lineup for the first of six Pirates games this week. In the meantime, Jared Triolo figures to continue working at the hot corner until Hayes returns to the lineup.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Dealt to Miami

The Marlins acquired Burger from the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Jake Eder, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Burger will provide a power boost to a Marlins team that currently ranks 28th in the majors in home runs. He's popped 25 homers and his .527 SLG would rank as a top-10 mark if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. The 27-year-old has been rather one-dimensional as evidenced by his .214 average and .279 OBP; nevertheless, Burger figures to take over the starting job at third base from Jean Segura.

  • Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE

Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Begins rehab assignment

Kieboom (oblique) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Wilmington, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Kieboom has been on the minor-league injured list since June 20 because of an oblique strain, but he's rounding back into good health and could potentially get a look in Washington down the stretch. The 25-year-old former top prospect hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021, battling various injuries along the way, but with Jeimer Candelario traded to the Cubs, Kieboom could get a look at third base for the Nationals down the stretch if he can stay healthy.
