  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Clubs first career grand slam

Chapman went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a walk, five total RBI and a stolen base during Sunday's 12-11 win over the Angels in 10 innings.

The third baseman helped Toronto overcome a six-run deficit with his first career grand slam during the sixth inning, and he followed up with an RBI single in the seventh. It's already Chapman's fourth three-hit effort of the season through 10 games, and he's hitting .475 and is tied for the league lead with 14 RBI.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Begins season on IL

Triple-A Indianapolis placed Triolo (wrist) on its 7-day injured list March 31.

According to Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com, Pirates medical director Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Triolo won't be cleared to resume baseball activities for another 4-to-6 weeks after undergoing surgery recently to address a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. The 25-year-old doesn't look as though he'll be ready to make his 2023 debut until around mid-May.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Likely to replace Cruz at shortstop

Castro appears to be first in line to step in as the Pirates' everyday shortstop beginning with Monday's game against the Astros with Oneil Cruz out indefinitely after suffering a fractured left ankle in Sunday's 1-0 win over the White Sox, Justice de los Santos of MLB.com reports.

Castro has started in five of the Pirates' first nine games -- all at second base -- slashing .176/.263/.235 across his first 19 plate appearances. He shifted over to shortstop following Cruz's departure in the sixth inning with an injury that will more than likely sideline him for several weeks, if not months. The Pirates will likely call up one of Tucupita Marcano or Chris Owings from Triple-A Indianapolis to add depth in the middle infield, but Castro, who logged 155 innings at shortstop with the big club in 2022, looks like he'll get the first crack at replacing Cruz. Castro showed some surprising pop and a modicum of speed during his 71 games in the majors last season, but the high strikeout rates that have been a staple of his profile since he reached the upper levels of the minors are likely to make him a batting-average risk while he's playing regularly.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Clubs third home run

Wisdom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Rangers.

Wisdom now has three home runs through six games to go with an outstanding 1.226 OPS. The Cubs started Nick Madrigal at third base Saturday, but Wisdom has been able to play in the outfield frequently in the early going, so the playing time has been there even when he's not at the hot corner. He should remain a fantasy factor as long as he's in the lineup most days.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Trouble with non-throwing elbow

Rays manager Kevin Cash said prior to Sunday's game against the Athletics that Walls' non-throwing elbow has been giving him trouble since Friday, and he'll likely get imaging done Monday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Walls went 1-for-2 in Friday's win and hasn't played since. The Rays have Jonathan Aranda on the taxi squad in case they need to place the 26-year-old on the injured list. Until the results of the imaging are announced, Walls should be considered day-to-day.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Nabs second straight start

Sosa will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Reds.

After going 1-for-3 with an RBI while starting at third base against a left-handed pitcher (Nick Lodolo) in Saturday's 3-2 win, Sosa will get another opportunity to man the hot corner, this time with a righty (Connor Overton) on the mound. With Alec Bohm expected to see more time at first base moving forward while Darick Hall (thumb) is on the injured list and Rhys Hoskins (knee) is out for the season, Sosa may get the chance to play on a near-everyday basis if he continues to perform reasonably well at the plate.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Launches homer No. 300

Arenado went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Brewers.

His two-run blast in the third inning off Eric Lauer gave the Cards a 4-0 lead, and it was Arenado's his first homer of the year and the 300th of his career. The third baseman joined a very exclusive club in the process, becoming just the eighth player in MLB history with 300 home runs and 10 Gold Gloves -- a group that features Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Schmidt, Al Kaline, Johnny Bench and Ivan Rodriguez, as well as a likely future Hall of Famer in Andruw Jones. The 31-year-old Arenado is having a strong start to the season, batting .364 (12-for-33) with four runs and eight RBI in eight games.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Swipes first bag

Henderson went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees.

Getting the start at shortstop and batting fifth, Henderson swiped his first base of the season in the fourth inning, but the O's couldn't cash him in. The 21-year-old is getting used as something of a super-utility player again rather than being allowed to get comfortable at one spot on defense -- he's seen action in three games at third base and two at shortstop so far, in addition to two starts as the DH -- and that may have contributed to his sluggish performance at the plate. Henderson's batting just .167 (4-for-24) with one homer, one steal, two RBI and three runs, and his 41.9 percent strikeout rate is a huge step back from his 25.8 percent mark last year for the O's. It's too early to get too worried, but Henderson appears to be pressing to begin his first full season in the majors.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Belts first homer

Chapman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and a walk in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.

Chapman was the only Blue Jay with multiple extra-base hits in the contest, and his third-inning, two-run homer gave the team an early 4-0 lead. The long ball was his first of the season, but Chapman has been hitting very well through Toronto's first nine contests, racking up eight extra-base hits. He's reached base in each of those games thus far, slashing an impressive .457/.500/.743 over 38 plate appearances.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Rockies' Mike Moustakas: Blasts first homer with Rockies

Moustakas went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to Washington.

Moustakas worked a 10-pitch at-bat against Anthony Banda in the ninth inning and finished it off with a 439-foot, two-run blast for his first long ball of the season. The veteran infielder made just his third start of the campaign for Colorado, and the homer was his second hit in 10 at-bats. Moustakas hasn't reached double-digit home runs since going deep 35 times with the Brewers in 2019, and he was plagued by injuries over his previous three seasons.
