  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Batting sixth in MLB debut

Henderson, who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk earlier Wednesday, will start at third base and bat sixth in his MLB debut against the Guardians.

The Orioles' top prospect played almost exclusively on the left side of the infield through his first three seasons in the minors before recently picking up more time at first base and second base, but the hot corner is expected to be his primary home with Baltimore, per Dan Connolly of The Athletic. Though the lefty-hitting 21-year-old could find himself on the bench versus southpaws, he'll likely be given the opportunity to play on an everyday basis against right-handed pitching after earning his ticket to the majors by producing an .894 OPS to go with 10 stolen bases over his 65 games at Norfolk. With Henderson stepping in at third base Wednesday, Ramon Urias will serve as the Orioles' designated hitter and could see most of his starts out of that spot moving forward.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Sitting again Wednesday

Paredes (undisclosed) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Paredes should have a clear path to a full-time role in the infield for at least the next week after Brandon Lowe (triceps) was placed on the injured list Wednesday, but he'll first have to overcome his own injury. The 23-year-old will be on the bench for a second straight contest due to the unspecified issue, which caused him to be scratched ahead of Tuesday's 7-2 win.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

    Giants' Evan Longoria: Resting Wednesday

Longoria isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Longoria is out of the lineup for the third time in the last five games after he went 2-for-8 with a double and a run over his last two matchups. Wilmer Flores will start at the hot corner and bat third.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sitting for afternoon game

Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Though Castro doesn't have a handle on a full-time gig at any position, he managed to stick in the lineup for 15 of the Pirates' previous 16 games while moving between second base and third base, with his only absence during that span coming while he served a suspension. Considering that Castro has slashed .318/.375/.591 with eight extra-base hits and two stolen bases since his promotion from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier this month, he looks poised to stick in a quasi-everyday role while his bat remains hot. He's likely just getting routine maintenance as the Pirates conclude their series in Milwaukee with a day game after a night game

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Athletics' Jonah Bride: On base thrice in win

Bride went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run in a win over the Nationals on Tuesday.

The rookie made some noise out of the No. 7 spot in the order, posting his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 12 in the process. Bride has put together a serviceable stretch at the plate of late, cobbling together a .250 average, .764 OPS and 8.6 percent walk rate over his last 10 games.

  • Tyler Nevin 3B | ATH

Orioles' Tyler Nevin: Sent down to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Nevin to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

He'll cede his spot on the active roster to top prospect Gunnar Henderson, who will be eligible to play in the postseason after he was officially promoted from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. Nevin could end up rejoining the Orioles in September when the active roster expands to 28 men, but he'll likely be little more than a right-handed-hitting option off the bench and an occasional starter versus left-handed pitching.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Promoted to big leagues Wednesday

The Orioles selected Henderson's contract from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Though Baltimore was expected to wait until the active roster expanded to 28 men Thursday before moving their top prospect to the big leagues, Henderson will be formally called up a day earlier than anticipated, which makes him eligible to compete in the postseason if the Orioles should earn a wild-card spot. The 21-year-old began the season at Double-A Bowie but thrived at Norfolk following an early-June promotion, slashing .288/.390/.504 with 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 65 games. He picked up starts at all four infield spots at Triple-A and could handle a near-everyday role for Baltimore.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Exits starting nine

Peterson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Though he's on the bench for the series finale against Pirates right-hander Zach Thompson, Peterson started against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three contests and went 3-for-8 with a run scored. At least for the time being, Peterson may have overtaken Luis Urias as the Brewers' preferred third baseman with the latter slashing .153/.287/.292 in August. Urias will get a chance to try and right the ship Wednesday while Peterson rests.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Set for call-up Thursday

Henderson is set to join the Orioles' taxi squad Wednesday and is expected to be formally called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The 21-year-old is the Orioles' top prospect and has spent most of his minor-league career on the left side of the infield, but he's gotten some exposure to first and second base at Norfolk recently to give him additional avenues to playing time once he arrives in the big leagues. From a production standpoint, Henderson certainly looks big-league ready, as he'll finish his time at Norfolk with a .288/.390/.504 slash line and a palatable 26.4 percent strikeout rate while slugging 11 home runs and notching 10 stolen bases in 65 games. Given that none of the Orioles' four primary starters in the infield (Ryan Mountcastle, Rougned Odor, Ramon Urias and Jorge Mateo) own a wRC+ mark above 101 on the season, Henderson should be a candidate to take on a near-everyday role while manager Brandon Hyde likely rotates rest days among the five players.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Goes 1-for-5 in return

Longoria (hamstring) went 1-for-5 in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.

Longoria returned after a one-game absence due to hamstring tightness. The third baseman served as the designated hitter Tuesday, which could continue in the near term in an effort to avoid aggravation of the injury that has bothered him multiple times this year. He's slashing .253/.330/.480 with 12 home runs, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored and nine doubles through 224 plate appearances.
