  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Sent to Red Sox

McGuire was traded to the Red Sox from the White Sox on Monday in exchange for pitcher Jake Diekman, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

The Red Sox need catching depth after trading long-time backstop Christian Vazquez, and they decided to bring McGuire into the fold. As things stand, expect McGuire and Kevin Plawecki to share the work behind the plate for Boston.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Traded to Houston

The Astros acquired Vazquez from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez and outfielder Wilyer Abreu, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Vazquez should provide the Astros with a big offensive upgrade at catcher from No. 1 option Martin Maldonado without any major downgrade defensively. Maldonado's familiarity with Houston's pitching staff may allow him to pick up a couple starts per week, but Vazquez should get the lion's share of the work behind the dish and is unlikely to see a significant drop in his overall fantasy value as a result of the move. The 31-year-old, who is batting .282 with eight home runs and 42 RBI on the season, will likely be making his Houston debut against his former team; the Astros and Red Sox begin a three-game series Monday.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: On bench in second straight

Haase is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

Haase appeared to supplant Tucker Barnhart as the Tigers' No. 1 catcher shortly before the All-Star break, but the two may be moving into more of a timeshare at the position. Barnhart will be behind the dish for the second straight game while Haase sits again after he was out of the lineup for Sunday's 4-1 loss to Toronto.

  • Jose Godoy C | TEX

Twins' Jose Godoy: Moved off 40-man roster

The Twins designated Godoy for assignment Monday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

He'll forfeit his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Aaron Sanchez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A St. Paul in advance of his scheduled start Monday against the Tigers. Godoy made two appearances with the big club earlier this season when the Twins required extra catching depth, but he's otherwise toiled at Triple-A St. Paul throughout the campaign.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Promoted to Double-A

Soderstrom was promoted to Double-A Midland on Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Soderstrom performed well at High-A Lansing to begin the season, slashing .259/.322/.515 with 20 home runs, 71 RBI and 47 runs over 88 games. The 20-year-old is one of the Athletics' top prospects and has impressed over his first two years in the minors after being selected 26th overall by Oakland in 2020. Soderstrom's defensive abilities lag behind his potential at the plate, but he'll have a chance to prove himself against an increased level of talent.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Launches game-winning homer

Perez went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 8-6 win over the Yankees.

Perez is just 2-for-12 since returning from thumb surgery Friday, but he's made his two hits count -- both have been three-run blasts. His long ball Sunday was crushed, a 112.2 mph, 441-foot rocket to center field in the ninth inning to secure the victory. The catcher is slashing .209/.249/.438 with 13 long balls, 41 RBI, 27 runs scored and 13 doubles in 60 contests this year.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Getting Sunday off

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Sanchez will be receiving some much-needed maintenance after he started behind the plate in each of the Twins' last nine games, a streak that dates back to before the All-Star break. Caleb Hamilton will get a rare turn behind the dish Sunday while Sanchez rests.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Sitting Sunday

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Maldonado will get a breather after he went 2-for-10 with a double and a run scored while starting in each of Houston's last three games. Korey Lee will fill in for Maldonado behind the plate.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Resting Sunday

Grandal is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Grandal went 4-for-16 with two RBI while starting each of the White Sox's past four games as either a designated hitter or catcher. Jose Abreu will handle DH duties in the series finale with Oakland, while Seby Zavala gets the nod behind the plate.

  • Rene Pinto C | PHI

Rays' Rene Pinto: Stealing work from Bethancourt

Pinto will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Guardians.

After going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 6-4 win, Pinto will be rewarded with his third start in the last four contests. He may have overtaken Christian Bethancourt as the Rays' top catcher while Francisco Mejia (shoulder) is on the shelf, but even if that's the case, Pinto's fantasy upside is minimal. In 64 plate appearances with the big club this season, Pinto is slashing .210/.234/.323 with two home runs and nine RBI.
