Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Delivers second homer

Jansen went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's win over the Orioles.

Jansen pushed Toronto's lead to three in the second inning following a two-run blast to left field. The 23-year-old has appeared in just 23 games at the big-league level in 2018, and he's slashing .254/.346/.433 with eight extra-base hits and five RBI. Jansen could see a fair amount of playing time down the stretch, with the Blue Jays out of playoff contention.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Still out Monday

Garver (head) remains out of the lineup Monday against the Tigers, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Garver will miss his fifth straight game after taking a foul ball off his mask back on Wednesday. It's unclear when he's expected to return. Willians Astudillo will be the Twins' catcher Monday.

  • Blue Jays' Reese McGuire: Drives in run, doubles vs. Yankees

McGuire went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored Sunday in the win over New York.

McGuire plated a run in the third inning to get Toronto on the board, and they'd rally for two runs in the eighth to take the series finale. He's gone 4-for-13 with two doubles, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base in six games since joining the big-league club Sept. 6 from Triple-A Buffalo.

Twins' Mitch Garver: Remains out Sunday

Garver (head) remains on the bench Sunday against the Royals.

Garver will miss his fourth straight game after taking a foul ball off his mask on Wednesday. He reportedly avoided a concussion, but the Twins will remain careful with him. Chris Gimenez starts behind the plate in his place.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Sits again Sunday

Perez is out of the lineup for the second straight day Sunday against the Twins.

The catcher's typically heavy workload has been significantly reduced in September. Since returning from a thumb injury Sept. 7, he's started just five of 10 games. Meibrys Viloria will start behind the plate Sunday.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: Day off Sunday

McCann is not starting Sunday against Cleveland.

McCann is in the middle of his worst season at the plate, hitting just .219/.266/.317, but he's nevertheless started nine of 14 games in the month of September. Grayson Greiner gets the call behind the plate Sunday.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Day off Sunday

Jansen is not in the lineup Sunday against the Yankees.

Jansen has the most starts out of Blue Jays' catchers in the month of September but has still started just seven of 15 games. Reese McGuire gets the call behind the plate Sunday.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Not starting Sunday

Leon is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets.

After starting three straight games, Leon has sat for three of the last four. He's hitless in his last 13 games, so it's little surprise that he finds himself on the bench. Christian Vazquez will start behind the plate.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Sits again Sunday

Gomes is not in the lineup Sunday against Detroit.

Gomes is one of eight starters to be rested Sunday after Cleveland clinched their playoff berth the day before. Eric Haase will start behind the plate.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Won't return to Saturday's lineup

Garver (head) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Garver, who exited Wednesday's game after taking a foul ball off his mask, will be out of the lineup for the third straight game. The 27-year-old should still be considered day-to-day as Willians Astudillo grabs another start behind the plate for the Twins.
