Roberto Perez C | BOS
Pirates' Roberto Perez: Gets season-ending surgery
The Pirates announced Wednesday that Perez will undergo season-ending surgery on his left hamstring in the near future, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Perez, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Pittsburgh in November, appeared in just 21 games before hitting the shelf earlier this month with what ultimately proved to be a season-ending injury. The Pirates will likely lean on a platoon of Michael Perez and Tyler Heineman at catcher the rest of the way, barring any further additions to the position group.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Power outage in Double-A lately
Alvarez is hitting .248/.339/.438 with four homers and a 14:31 BB:K across 28 games for Double-A Binghamton.
He hit all four of those homers in his first six games of the season and has managed none since, with an ugly .210/.313/.272 line across his last 22 contests. That said, Alvarez has been showing signs of emerging from the slump recently, as he actually has a six-game hitting streak going during which he's hit .409 with a couple doubles. If he can keep that up, we might see him come up at some point this season, especially if James McCann's wrist injury lingers or further injuries hit the Mets' catcher corps; however, Alvarez is just 20 years old and would be best served by additional minor-league development time.

Brian Serven C | ATH
Rockies' Brian Serven: MLB debut Wednesday
Serven is starting at catcher and batting ninth in Wednesday's series finale against the Giants.
After being called up Tuesday, Serven is set to make his MLB debut Wednesday. Through 77 at-bats with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, the catcher produced a .273 average with five homers and 11 RBI.

Elias Diaz C | KC
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets maintenance day
Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Diaz will get a routine breather after he started behind the plate in each of the Rockies' last three games. With Diaz on the bench, Brian Serven -- who was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday -- will make his MLB debut as the Rockies' starting catcher in the series finale.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Not starting nightcap
Smith is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus Arizona, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during the matinee, and it's not a surprise he won't be starting both ends of the twin bill. Austin Barnes will take over behind the plate and bat eighth.

Joey Bart C | PIT
Giants' Joey Bart: On bench again Tuesday
Bart is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Bart has hits in his past three contests but finds himself on the bench for the second straight game. Curt Casali will receive another start behind the plate, forming a battery with Alex Cobb.
