  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Heads to bench

Ruiz will sit Saturday against the Giants, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Ruiz sits for the second time in three games, something he'd only done on one previous occasion this season. Riley Adams will get the nod behind the plate.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

    Giants' Joey Bart: Resting Saturday

Bart will hit the bench Saturday against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bart and Saturday's starter, Curt Casali, have now alternated turns behind the plate for 14 straight games. Assuming the pattern continues, Bart should return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Three hits, homer

Bart went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in a 14-4 loss to the Nationals on Friday.

Bart had his best game of the season with singles in the fifth and ninth innings and a seventh-inning solo shot sandwiched in between. Bart had gone hitless across his last six games prior to Friday's three-hit effort and is now slashing .214/.340/.452, with his OPS jumping 146 points thanks to the effort.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Goes yard twice Friday

Contreras went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.

The blasts provided insurance runs in the victory, as Contreras took Brock Burke deep in the fourth inning and connected off Albert Abreu in the sixth. They were the first two hits of the season for Contreras, in his second game with Atlanta this season, but regardless of how he does, the 24-year-old may have to head back to Triple-A Gwinnett for more development once Manny Pina (wrist) gets healthy.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Slugs second homer

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Friday against the Reds.

Diaz led off the second inning with a solo home run, his second long ball of the season. It was a welcomed performance for Diaz, as he entered the game having collected only three hits in his last 24 at-bats -- only one of which went for extra bases. Even despite those recent struggles, Diaz has maintained a .263/.300/.439 line with five runs scored and six RBI across 17 games to begin the campaign.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Receives breather Friday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

D'Arnaud started all three games against the Cubs this week and will take a seat for the series opener in Texas. William Contreras, who was promoted Thursday to fill the roster spot of Manny Pina (wrist), will start behind the plate Friday and form a battery with Ian Anderson.

  • Pirates' Roberto Perez: Not in Friday's lineup

Perez isn't starting Friday against the Padres.

The 33-year-old was initially scheduled to get a day off Thursday before Andrew Knapp was scratched from the lineup due to an illness. Perez will retreat to the bench in Friday's series opener since Knapp is starting behind the dish and batting ninth.

  • Reds' Mark Kolozsvary: First major-league hit

Kolozsvary had an RBI double in Thursday's loss to the Padres, going 1-for-3 before getting lifted for a pinch hitter late in the game.

Kolozsvary will get to stick around for the weekend, which happens to be a series in Coors Field. He'll likely get sent back down Tuesday, when Tyler Stephenson is due back from his concussion.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Recalled by Atlanta

Contreras was recalled by Atlanta on Thursday.

Contreras has hit .292 with three doubles, eight RBI and two runs in 13 games at Triple-A Gwinnett this year, and he'll serve as Atlanta's No. 2 catcher after Manny Pina (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday. In 57 major-league appearances, Contreras has hit .220 with eight homers, 24 RBI and 19 runs.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Targeting return Tuesday

Stephenson (concussion) is targeting a return Tuesday against the Brewers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Stephenson is already eligible to return from the 7-day injured list but evidently needs a few more days to get up to speed. Aramis Garcia should remain the Reds' primary catcher until he returns.
