  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Not starting Wednesday

Nola is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels.

Nola made his debut with the Padres on Monday and went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Jason Castro, a fellow trade acquisition, will start behind the plate and bat ninth Wednesday for the Friars.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Loses out on everyday role

Caratini is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Caratini has been filling a quasi-everyday role for the Cubs this season, often serving as the team's designated hitter on days when he's not catching for a resting Willson Contreras. After Jose Martinez was acquired from the Rays on Sunday, however, Caratini doesn't look like he'll have a clear path to at-bats at DH any longer. If he's only getting two or three starts per week, Caratini will be tough to justify holding, even in leagues that start two catchers.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Thrives as in-game replacement

Knizner entered Tuesday's win over the Reds on Tuesday as a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth inning and went 2-for-2 with a two-run infield single and a run.

The rarely-used catcher made the most of his playing time opportunity, extending the Cardinals' lead to 13-0 in the sixth inning with his single. Knizner has not logged any starts since Matt Wieters' went on the injured list Aug. 20 with a toe issue, and he has just 17 plate appearances on the season overall.

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Loses top job to Bart

Tromp is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Tromp's usage has predictably trended downward since the Giants promoted top prospect Joey Bart to the big leagues Aug. 20. In the Giants' 12 games since that date, Tromp has made three starts, going 1-for-6 at the dish.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Provides three singles

Bart went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in Tuesday's 23-5 win over the Rockies.

Bart also reached base a fourth time when he was hit by a pitch. After recording exactly one hit in each of his first four MLB games, Bart had fallen into a 1-for-19 slump before breaking out Tuesday along with a number of teammates, as San Francisco's 27 hits were the most by an NL team since 1999.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Three hits in Tuesday's win

D'Arnaud went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Red Sox.

While none of the knocks went for extra bases, it was still a productive night for the veteran catcher. On the season, d'Arnaud now boasts a .325/.360/.530 slash line with four homers and 18 RBI through 31 games.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: On bench Tuesday

Barnhart is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Barnhart hits the bench after starting five of the Reds' last six games behind the plate. Curt Casali will catch in his absence.

  • Phillies' Deivy Grullon: Designated for assigment

Grullon was designated for assignment Monday.

The Phillies needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Ranger Suarez, who was activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Grullon hit .283/.354/.496 with 21 home runs at Triple-A last season, but his defense behind the plate leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Not in Monday's lineup

D'Arnaud isn't in Monday's lineup against the Red Sox.

D'Arnaud will take a seat for the second time in the past three games after going 1-for-5 with one run, one RBI and three strikeouts Sunday. Tyler Flowers will start behind the plate.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Slugs fourth homer

Smith went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and three runs scored Sunday against the Rangers.

Smith had a busy day at the plate, beginning in the second inning when he slugged his fourth home run of the season. He also crossed the plate in the sixth and eighth innings, both times after reaching base on a free pass. Smith is now hitting .208/.371/.521 with 11 runs scored and 11 RBI across 62 plate appearances.
