  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Chips in rare stolen base

Contreras went 1-for-4 with a single, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Royals.

Batting cleanup as the DH, Contreras drove in a run in the eighth and then stole second off Gabe Speier and Salvador Perez, matching his stolen-base total from all of last season. Contreras also has a couple homers already and is batting north of .300 through 11 games.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Resting Game 2

Realmuto is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Realmuto was never expected to start both ends of the twin bill, and he started the matinee and went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, two RBI and two walks. Andrew Knapp will work behind the plate in the nightcap, batting ninth.

  • Brian Serven C | ATH

Rockies' Brian Serven: Added to 60-man roster

Serven was added to the Rockies' 60-man player pool Wednesday.

Serven advanced to Double-A Hartford in 2019 but experienced some growing pains as he slashed .202/.286/.364 with nine home runs, 30 RBI and 61 strikeouts over 77 games. The Rockies have plenty of catching depth on their major-league roster so it's highly unlikely that the 25-year-old will reach the big leagues this season, but he'll be able to continue his development among some of the organization's top prospects this year.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Takes breather Wednesday

Mejia isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Mejia has seen the majority of the time behind the plate over the first several weeks of the season, but he'll get his second game off in the past three contests. Austin Hedges will be the starting catcher, batting eighth.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Narvaez is not starting Wednesday against the White Sox.

Narvaez has alternated starts behind the plate over the past three games, and that trend will continue Wednesday. Manny Pina will serve as the starting catcher, batting sixth.

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Sits again Wednesday

Tromp remains on the bench Wednesday against Colorado, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Tromp had started four out of six games after making his debut last Wednesday, but he's since been on the bench for two in a row. Tyler Heineman remains the starter behind the plate in this one.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Gets rare start Tuesday

Nido got the start behind the plate Tuesday and hit ninth, going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Wilson Ramos was still in the lineup but at DH, allowing Nido to make only his third start of the season. The 26-year-old has gone 3-for-10 in those starts, but as long as Ramos is healthy, playing time will be scarce for his backup.

  • Alex Jackson C | MIN

Braves' Alex Jackson: Moves up to big club

The Braves recalled Jackson from their alternate training site Wednesday.

Both of the Braves' top catchers (Tyler Flowers and Travis d'Arnaud) are believed to be healthy, so expect Jackson to see limited action as a No. 3 backstop while he's up with the big club. Teams will have to reduce their active rosters from 30 to 28 men Friday, so Jackson will likely be a prime candidate to get optioned to the Braves' alternative training site at that time.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Homers in win Tuesday

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Royals.

Contreras extended the Cubs' lead to 5-2 in the eighth inning and they ended up needing the insurance run. The Chicago catcher has been locked in with a 1.013 OPS through 10 games, and he should continue to post strong numbers from the middle of the team's lineup.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Marlins' Chad Wallach: Lands on injured list

Wallach was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday for an undisclosed reason, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.

Wallach earned an Opening Day roster spot as the Marlins' third catcher, but he'll be sidelined after Tuesday's move. The team didn't provide an explanation for the transaction. If his absence is related to the COVID-19 outbreak among the team's players, the Marlins wouldn't be allowed to say so without his permission. Francisco Cervelli and Ryan Lavarnway should handle the catching duties with Wallach on the injured list.
